All true points but this isn't to do with Van Der Ven, surely this needs to go in the Levy thread otherwise every single thread becomes a Levy bashing thread.

We made some good early moves with Vicario, Maddison and Solomon and Ange has publicly said we need and are working on bringing in at least one CB.

Its super frustrating but lets see how it plays out the next few weeks, surely the Kane situation and possibly finalising certain outgoings like Sanchez are effecting transfers like Van Der Ven being held up.

If its Tosin and not Van Der Ven I'd be a little disappointed as I think VDV being fast and left footed and good technically suits Ange's style of football so well but Tosin is also pretty quick and a decent player who could improve under Ange.

I completely 1000% get the frustration towards Levy but having to read the same complaints in every player thread and every other thread does get a bit tiring.
Levy is tiring

We shoot ourselves in the foot. This could have been a fairly easy tap-in, window started well. Manager discussing attacking football. A CB VDV looked pretty simple to do and then Tapsoba more tricky but we’d have one in the bag that would have appeased some for a bit. It’s so weird the level of indecision.

Well said and agree. When, as I expect, Kane is sold this window, I will cease to be a fan of Spurs. I will end my comparatively short fandom tenure (~12 years) because I can't continue to root for a team with demonstratively poor leadership. Everyone has to make their own choice in the matter; I choose to walk away.
Christ, loads of us have supported Spurs through the 90's. I think we'll manage to get behind Brazil's No 9 instead.

Anyway, Van de Ven? Van de When more like. etc.

Starting to seem more and more like we have spent our budget and are waiting for the Kane/Hojbjerg money to come in before moving forward, which is an absolute disgrace but it wouldn’t shock me

It is not backing a manager to spend valuable money on players they both don't want and have no intention of playing.

Also backing a manager is far more than just buying them the players they want. It's about trying to do as much as you can both on and off the pitch to put their vision into practice. It is not to side with players who get the hump who aren't playing because they are big money assets. It is not to make promises and assurances that you don't keep, and it is not sacking them 5 days before a cup final.

Jose, Conte and even Nuno were shit appointments but mainly because they had no intention of giving them what they actually needed to succeed.
What did they need to "succeed"? To my eyes it just seemed like they were shit.
Can you give examples of this lack of backing?

I really don't think it's difficult to see that we'd have been better off in Jose's second season if we had brought in Skriniar when Inter weren't asking for a crazy fee.

Then again the following January, where Levy refused to sell Alli when Jose wanted him gone.

No, it's just he hasn't come here yet and everyone is losing their shit for some reason.

Exactly, never heard of him until this summer!
I agree with those that have pointed out that we need a player in ASAP to bed in for pre-season Ange's style of football, but getting the right player trumps that for me.
They could be waiting on decisions from higher up the list targets, before pushing the button on this kid.

He said it wasn't only players. No manger gets all the players he wants, the good ones still don't make a pig's ear of the season, so I'm interested to hear what he means

You just don't get it........ Forget ITK! Forget the media! Forget it all, It's all irrelevant!

Purely look at where we are as a squad and our needs and then look at our recent history in transfer windows the past 3-4 years. Just look at the absolute facts and what we 100% know about our transfer history and tell me you think things will be definitely be different this time around and why.

For me even if we do address the CB problem we have still hamstrung the coach with him not being able to work with these players during preseason. It really is important to get the key positions sorted as early as you can if you want to hit the ground running.
You sound animated by this all of a sudden. Did you expect or have reason to think Spurs would act differently this time?

We've had around 20 years of Enic ownership now. And I don't think there's ever been a season where we've gotten all our squad building (ins and outs) ducks in a row in good time. The manager's job is find a route to success in this environment. For whatever reason, levy and enic will never try to improve the operational environment when it comes to recruitment.

Depends what you think success is. Plus the board need to play their part in bringing this success, it isn't just down to the manager.

There seems to have been a lot of talk that Ange is happy to work with a few of the options on the list. So we’re not dealing with a Jose, Conte or Poch demanding certain players.

If that’s true, it’s even more madness that we haven’t got a new CB in the building.

The clock is ticking and we’re in serious danger of starting the season with Romero & Dier/Davies at centre half for a coach the plays a high line.
Brentford 5-4 Tottenham.
