Fair enough. But I view it differently on this one in particular
Yeah I'm very much in the camp that there are no exceptions. It's like saying "it's ok for Levy to get one player the manager doesn't want, but no one else because I like him".

A rebuild has to be done right, with a coherent plan and competent people getting all the pieces to fit that jigsaw. Random opportunistic deals are one of the reasons we are in this mess in the first place.

I think this is the problem though, you have to be consistent imo when you want the club to act in a structured way or back the manager, it can't be only in relation to what we believe is a good deal or a good player. It has to be a structured consistent system with a clear through line or else it all falls apart based on subjectivity.

I had this with mates over christmas, they were sick of Paratici/Levy making signings that Conte didn't want and demanded that we back the manager but then they didn't Zaniolo and so felt that not getting Conte who he wanted was the right decision then. It simply can't work like that. You either back what the manager wants 100% or you have a structure that's set in stone as an alternative.

I agree Trix. Solo for starters is a very good player. Whoever you are interviewing got to respect an acquisition, especially a free one (before they come). On the other hand if i was a player I would want to know who the manager is before I sign.

I still like the model of taking a punt on young, HG (if possible) talent for decent fees and giving them a chance to develop - so long as there's a manager in place who: A) is willing to work that way, and B) gets a few 'established' players they want through the door first. With that though, you'd need more realistic expectations/ demands from the board when it comes to Top 4, etc - and unfortunately I think that ship has sailed.

It's not free though is it, it's a spot on the squad and wages on a player who might not fit what the manager wants or alternatively take the spot of somebody he does.

I think trix makes a valid point. Until the club stops looking at the investment potential and focuses the bigger picture we won’t be winning trophies for a long time. Unfortunately the success of poch gave some hope that this model could work. How many teams who invest in youth and buy players based on resale are regularly competing for trophies in the prem. It gets you to a point but to take the extra step you need to invest properly, which means paying market value for the skill set that is required. Youth and investments got Liverpool part of the way, then they spent what they needed on van dijk and Allison. If conte had got bastoni for example at the start of the season I would think top 4 could have been achievable. Instead the decisions this season have cost us champs league and it seems are to be rinsed and repeated again for next season. It doesn’t matter how good a player he is or how good a bargain it is, whilst the footballing decisions are being made by people who aren’t directly involved in the football side of things it’s never going to work.

Trix knows I respect and plenty love to him. We are an absolute mess, and not about to change soon (opinion). I think it is still a good deal.

I don't know anything about the player so it's hard to judge.

If this interest is real, I am curious as to who is behind it. Is it Levy simply seeing a potential good value deal? Is this someone Paratici has been following and previously recommended we move for in the summer?

I want new players too, I love a signing, I love the chase , I love seeing them hold up the shirt but when I see Spence, I see danjuma, Bissouma last season, Lenglet - the pattern is there.

All good players and I really love Spence and Bissouma but the manager has to think that too and the last thing we want is to buy more players for an already messy and bloated squad without a coaches approval.

Of course we should have a manager by now and therefore risk missing out on this lad and N'dicka but that's another debate.

That’s the problem though. There’s always a good deal if you just look at the numbers and Solomon has shown some great glimpses this season but if I’m a manager being offered a project having players who are a good deal thrown at me isn’t exactly the project I’d want to be part of.

Also, I do believe he is only on around £20k a week at the minute? So I don't imagine this ever really being that big of a deal if we complete it unless he starts asking for ridiculous money.

Frankly speaking, he is a good player. He is not proven on the highest level to be perceived "a very good". His statistics also is not mouth watering. I believe that he may have a very high ceiling. Do you know why? Because he played for Shakhtar. Their scouting is superior. I would prefer if Tottenham buy their recruiting team. I am no scout and probably you are right. Moreover, I hope you are right. I'm just sick and tired of this mess.

Well, that has Harrys wage of 200 (10,400,000 Annually bang on) It won't account for the bonus structure I imagine.

Yea but so was danjuma, lenglet, nkoudou njie gedson. Bale the 2nd time. If it meant we’ll take a hit on getting another player out for this upgrade then great but I imagine we’ll want a premium for anyone that’s leaving. so we’ll not be able to sign players we actually need like any type of defender and a gk due to our squad being too big 🫣

I think so. Don't remember, but someone mentioned here that NDombele was not on 200k per week.

This feels like the most Paratici deal ever - pacey head-down dribbler on a free. I suspect the ground work has been laid for a while and now we need to decide if we’re going to follow through. With our massively bloated squad we have to be really careful with “value” buys as we only have a few shirts left to hand out. I don’t think Solomon is all that exciting, his videos look like Lucas and his stats outside of take-ons are mid - but maybe our budget is so tight that we’re going to have to settle in a couple of positions, and I’d sooner skimp on a backup WF than an average CB or GK.

We simply don’t need “value deals”. We are not a poor club, and we’d have more money available for transfer fees and wages if we got the deadwood out of the door.
