Interesting quotes on Trippier from his former youth coach in this article - http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...s/man-city-transfers-kieran-trippier-13355808

“He would have been a good fit,” said Eyre, a highly-respected coach who is now assistant manager at Chesterfield.

“You never know how the game will evolve, but at City it would have evolved perfectly in his favour.

“It would have been hard for him to oust Pablo Zabaleta at any time in his career, but he would have been perfect now, for the way Pep wants to play.

“He would be comfortable stepping into midfield and gives excellent service into the front players – and these days he defends to Premier League standards as well.

“City choosing to sign Kyle will now allow him to progress further at Tottenham.

“He would have been perfect for Pep this season, but City have chosen a different type of player.

“Don't get me wrong, Kyle Walker will be an asset to the club but I think Kieran would have been better suited.

“I find the Kyle Walker situation fascinating because him – and Antonio Valencia – are experts at getting to the end of the pitch at maximum speed.

“But by the time they get there, the penalty area is full of bodies.

“Kieran tends to put the ball in ten, 15 or 20 yards earlier, as Charlie Austin and Harry Kane will testify – he picks you out to score the goal.”

The stats back up Eyre's point – last season in the Premier League Trippier had five assists in 566 minutes of action, compared to Walker's five in 2,704.

Eyre also has no doubts that Trippier had the technical ability to fit into City's current team.

“He had a mischievous side to him as well,” he said. “He could pick out a person with 40- and 50-yard passes and hit them on the back of the head.

“I swear the old groundsman still has a Mitre imprint on his head – but whenever he turned around Kieran would be innocently juggling another ball!

“It's a bit of a moan of mine that they allowed him to leave City when he did.

“It comes as no surprise to me at all that he has been signed long-term by Spurs and has won his first England cap.

“To be honest, he was the nearest thing to a certainty at 11 years of age that I and the other academy staff had ever seen.

“Everything was right – he had fantastic parents in Eleanor and Chris and though he rarely had a bad game we never had to tell him when he did because his grandma would have done it by the time he got back to the car!

“You could get football information into him easily, and he would recycle it among his teammates – a great lad to work with, on and off the field.

“He was outstanding in that Youth Cup campaign in 2008, and in extra time I had a real lump in my throat because he was taken out by a bad tackle and stretchered off, which meant he couldn't take part in the celebrations.

“But he soon got over that and we continued to tell anyone who cared to listen that he would make it.”

Shows what the above coach was saying. His crossing could get us many more goals this year and he could of had a good 10 after watching the clip.

That's why the money for Walker for too good to turn down.

The improved delivery from KT will bring X more goals.
But KT's athleticism compared to Walker might mean we concede Y more goals.

X will be greater than Y though IMO, and validate Poch's decision to let KW go.

But when will Trippier's cross get to Kane when two trains leave at the same time traveling at different speeds?

You know what, I've often though this and that it's the reason why walker's crossing is so bad and he's so indecisive in attack.

"I find the Kyle Walker situation fascinating because him – and Antonio Valencia – are experts at getting to the end of the pitch at maximum speed.

If trippier can improve on his defending this season then he'll be a contender for PL team of the year as his attacking side is excellent.

I don't get why Trippier is still wearing 16 in recent friendlies.

Surely he is switching to 2 (OCD alert whoop whoop! :nailbiting::nailbiting:) - his twitter account also includes 2 in his username.

I know in past we've kept old numbers in pre-season but a bit dodgy if he does change just before seasons starts as impatient people might have gone out and got his 16 shirt with new kit.

It's vacant, he probably wants it so should have really been bumped up to it already.

Think I'm right in saying you can't use more than one squad number in the PL per season. So I can imagine by the end of the week the club will announce official numbers.

Love stuff like that! Only concern for Trips at the moment is the niggly injuries and knocks he picks up. I can remember a few times last year he had knocks that kept him out. Hopefully a good run of games and he can put that behind him.

Yeah but it's just weird we always leave it so late for players to switch.

E.g. I think Kane wore 18 all pre-season the summer before he switched to 10, why can't they just do it as soon as pre-season starts if no-one is wearing the number (or in case of Kane getting 10 Adebayor was not in plans anyway).

According to the lastest ITK. Trippier is now first choice.

FFS! :banghead:

Thank god it's just ITK.
he's a good player.. but he's not on walkers level.. we are weaker at rb without a doubt..
a massive part of our game over the last few years has been the pace and power of our full backs, their ability to break forward or backwards time after time . trips doesn't offer that... although he crosses a great ball...
he will be fine against lower teams but hopefully we get a new rb in that fits our game..

When was the last time Kyle Walker put a cross inch perfect onto Kane's forehead?

Also, Trippier started against United, Arsenal, and Chelsea at the end of last year and was perfectly fine. Walker was awful against West Ham.

Trippier got his arse handed to him against tier 4 wingers in the Europa League last season.

We can keep going or we can just agree that Trippier will never be as good as Walker.

Why can't he be?

Walker 2014 wasn't as good as Walker 2016.

Kyle Walker played both matches against Gent and all he did was pick up a yellow card.
