Rose was only doing the safe thing when it came to the corner, I'm sure he was caught in a very similar situation a few months ago where he didn't know what was behind him. In that game the player nipped in behind him and scored . So in a way his lack of awareness has caught him out again. Saying that I wouldn't blame him, trips marking de Ligt is crazy and an battle in the air is a no contest. What I find inexcusable is that de Ligt makes one step to his right and loses trips and that's simply not good enough at any level. Then after losing him he makes zero effort to get back to his player and is more interested in throwing his hands in the air about the Toby tussle in the box. The second goal is just stupid, maybe he was fouled but it's still not an excuse for what happened after and not playing to the whistle. He's cost us so many times this season, and while I'll try to support him whilst he still plays with us, I really want him gone from the club the next window as he's simply not good enough.

Not sure Lloris actually said anything before Rose kicked it out. Anyway, if a defender is not sure putting it behind is defending 101, and what actually cost us in a previous game when Rose didn’t see someone behind him and we conceded a really soft goal when he let it go. Rose should have been aware no one was behind him but I’d rather he played safe. Same as playing to the whistle as a defender, don’t just stop expecting the ref to blow.
Sure, when in doubt kick it out. but when there is no one within 10 yards of you that is not safe that is unaware and why our defenders get run off because they don't flash a look behind them. It's poor.

Hugo was definitely shouting at him.

When? Rose kicked the ball out as Lloris was still landing from his dive. Lloris starts to shout as he was scrabbling to his feet but Rose is already kicking it out. I agree he should be aware who is around him, but if he’s not 100% sure he has to put it behind. It’s basic defending 101, same as always play to the whistle and ensure back passes are directed wide of the goal in case keeper misses it or slips etc.

It was actually worse than that, it was for the winning goal (and not from a penalty), directly caused by Rose leaving it and an opponent coming in behind him to slot home.

Thanks for that, thought he gave away a penalty for some reason, old age and that ?

You can see here the time between Hugo's save and Rose reaching the ball was so short, he had maybe one second to react, and didn't have the luxury of looking around to see if he had time before getting to the ball.
(clip should start 7.40mins in)

i Knew when - I was stating that Lloris shouted (or started to shout if you watch the behind the goal angle) as he scrambled back to his feet, but Rose was already in mid action of kicking it out by then.

Again, was he a 'defensive liability' last night or not? Describe how he was if it's not about the 2 goals.

If it is about the 2 goals, why is all the fucking blame on one player yet again?

For the first goal, how is giving away a completely needless goalscoring opportunity (Rose) worse than what happened with DeLigt in the box?

Were you expecting Trippier to win it in the air? Was DeLigt 'his man'?

Hahaha - the same Danny who played like a leader out on that pitch? The same Danny who was my go to MotM before I remembered Moura scored a hat trick? The same Danny who was one of the best players on the pitch on the night?

There really is no comparison - Danny had a stormer.

As for that corner, remember Southampton away? Looks like he learnt from that mistake and wasn’t taking any chances as he wasn’t sure what was behind him.

I thought Danny was brilliant in both games as well.

? He certainly was ... the term ‘force of will’ really sums up Danny Rose and probably why his name has been sung the longest and the loudest in the last month or so. He gives everything and goes into every challenge as if his life depends on it. And let’s not forget it was his lovely piece of skill and pass that started the move for the first goal and his forage up the left that led to the second goal. He had a stormer and was in a totally different league to Trippier.

Again, it's a case about singling out one player for criticism and little (if any) credit and the opposite for another...in what was a team performance and the best result in our recent history.

All players have culpability for goals of varying degrees, it's not all about one player and one 'mistake'.

It won't matter anyway as I'm sure there'll be umpteen posts again tearing into the whipping boy before the final, calling for him to be dropped, sold, burnt etc....as usual.

Maybe at half time too during the biggest game in our history, because that's what some are like tbh.

... and then, when we’ve won it, and everyone is piling on top of their mates, texting their loved ones or just pinching themselves to make sure they’re not dreaming, you will be here in the Trippier thread giving negative ratings to anyone who dared criticise him during in the game.

So true . Paulo has given me several negative ratings for daring to criticise his god Trippier.

Yes he was partially to blame for the two Ajax goals. But a good part of seizing the initiative back in the second half was Tripps bombing down his flank. And it was his cross that caused the carnage resulting in Moura's equaliser. KT makes mistakes, sure. But he has never given up, made excuses or hidden. Limited yes. But not deserving all the vitriol.

Not only that... If you disagree with one of his posts in this thread, he goes back through all your old posts and spams or dislikes them.

I don't like the way Trippier is singled out, especially when we win. It's often uncalled for. But Paolo makes it impossible to have a sensible discussion about it.
