Seriously, fuck our medical staff for putting Jan back on. Time for a head injury sub to be introduced to the game, but until then our staff have got to stop gambling with our players health like that. Shocking.

He got hit in the nose, not his head.

I doubt they forced him to keep playing. It's likely that Jan was saying he was good to go and he didn't show immediate signs he needed to be taken off. It can't be an easy job to properly diagnose an overly eager player like Jan during the Champions league SF. After all, he reportedly has neither broken anything nor is concussed.

To me it looked like he broke his nose and the blood and snot was running down his throat which was causing him to gag and get dizzy.

Fingers crossed he will be ok for next week!

If he hasn't suffered a concussion, could the dissy/black out /what ever it was be down to loss of blood?

So he felt OK until he started to move around.

Thats not the point, the point is this is the internet and this is something to be outraged over.
We'll worry about the details later.

It was ridiculous he was left back on. There was no way they knew whether he had concussion or not. They need to introduce a the HIA thing they have for rugby.

I think it was just one of those blows that you take where your body goes into shock, they're called sickening blows for a reason.

Didn't seem to be any real thought of concussion.

Should be ok for the weekend.

Yeah beat me to it, I've definitely experienced a few injuries/bumps before (which could be anything, eg. randomly when I tore my ankle ligaments) where after a couple of mins you suddenly go into shock and start to feel sick and all concentration and coordination goes. Surely I'm not the only one?

Usually after sitting down, calming down and getting some breaths back into you, getting a drink etc. the effects wear off. Well it did for me. So if there is no concussion or serious damage he might be feeling alright by now and just nursing a sore hooter.

Couldn’t agree more.

If that occurred in NFL or Aussie Rules there would be an inquiry and people would be sacked.

Football needs to catch up fast on concussion policy and safeguarding

Good news.

From where I was sitting it looked like he was unconscious for a bit. Looked like he did’nt even move for a couple of minutes and was surprised he was allowed back on.

Poch certainly did’nt look happy with our medical team when Vertonghen had to be subbed.

if he passed his concussion exam they were right to let him go on. nasal injuries can be very stimulating (Vagal overload) but its not a brain injury.

so if you dont need to be hit in the head to suffer a concussion and the medical staff cant determine if there is a concussion all injured players must leave?

Be a big boost if he's back for the 2nd leg - I thought he was done for the season when he stumbled off.
