Pretty sure this changes week to week depending on who's injured but he's underrated I'll give you that
You are right, you are right. He isn't the most important player hands down. But he is the only one who is that important and that underrated.

I think his injury was at the worst possible time. Firstly he's been in his best form for us this season and because Alderweireld isn't 100% I believe and so we're left with him, and a choice of a work in progress with Dier/Wimmer.

I hope he's back soon. Dier is a good DM but, imho, he's not good enough at CB for a top 4 side. Sorry Eric.

I agree, but the worrying thing is what it says about Wimmer if Dier is preferred out of position over Wimmer who would be playing his natural position

I doubt it's a question of ability. More likely that Poch prefers Eric's attitude/personality or "Warrior Spirit".

He was sorely missed yesterday, class act & sadly we are miles apart as a team with & without him

Well either way, if he's not going to use him when Vertonghen's injured then when will he?
In Cup games where he sends out mickey mouse sides, I suppose. There has to be some sort of personality issue at play here. I mean, he was exiled for months earlier in the season and CCV even leapfrogged him in the pecking order for a while.

Dier has basically been playing CB for us every week since Alderweireld got injured in the start of october. First as a Toby replacement, then as a part of a back three and now as replacement for Vertonghen. We're still the team the lets in the fewest goals.

And even though he's not at the same level as Vertonghen and Alderweireld (only Luiz and Koscielny are in this league), then I'd say that he's still very good, and much better than in his outings as CB in his first season with us.

As others have said, Dier is very good in a three but a little shakey in a 4. He like Wimmer last year has done a good job in contributing to our record thus far. Looking forward to having Super Jan back in the 3 though.
