If he's not fit enough to make the bench this weekend then im surprised we are letting him go for the internationals. Maybe we figure it will give him some match fitness.

When we send him fit, he comes back injured.

Maybe we've worked out that if we send him injured, he'll come back fit.

Did he not miss the World Cup ?
Yep, his various injuries also sometimes impact the national team.

I Realise it's not his fault but it felt for a while that he was in a cycle of injured -> get fit -> play for Argentina -> go back to step 1.

No idea how many games he managed when out on loan but absolutely seems to be made of glass, which is a shame as I think he could do well for us if he could just put together a decent run of games.

Argentina have plenty of good players in his position, would be surprised if he starts any of the games.

Getting subbed minutes in both games might actually benefit us this time.

Back fit just in time for the internationals again?
I think the blame is more on the Argentinian FA because my lad told me they've also called up an injured Messi.
They've always done it, called up and played half fit players and broken them again.
They are massively reckless when it comes to player welfare and don't give a toss about their clubs.

The majority of players see playing for their country as the pinnacle, you can't really fault them for that, as frustrating as it is for the club fans.

Oh man, having Gil and Gio stay fit for a period of time almost seems like too much to ask for.

Good luck to them both. We'd be in such a strong position if it finally all aligns.

Risky. International managers often don't think twice about using a player who's not fit. Then they just turn to the next in line. If he's not fit enough for us he should stay here during the break and work on it. We pay his wages after all.

Going by Ange presser he seems to have no concerns about international managers over using players. I know he was specifically talking about Son but his answer seemed to be a general one. I guess if he’s fit enough for the bench and in full training then we just have to hope he’s fit enough to play for Argentina. I agree I’d rather have him here but Ange doesn’t seem the type to put up with anything he’s not happy about.

Clubs actually aren't allowed to hold back players from international duty, not even when injured. If the national team call them up players are to to join and be assessed by the national team medical personnel. Of course most of the time the two parts communicate with each other and come to a solution.
