He had such a promising pre season - looks lively, dangerous and importantly - happy! Hope he comes back soon and can play a role. Agree with others that if he can't put a run of fitness together, Ange will decide to move him on.

Has he been selected for Argentina? Would be just typical if he times his return to fitness just in time for the international break

Not just typical: true to form, predictable, irritating

Let's see how the next few weeks pan out, but with the benefit of hindsight, we should have sold this guy in the summer when there was genuine interest and gone all in on Gallagher

I don't know what the reason is (i.e. it sits somewhere between him and us), but I just can't help thinking it's never going to work for him here

You cannot compare Gio and Gallagher.

At present, Gio is our back-up to Maddison if that were Gallagher the midfield dynamic would change considerably.

The THFC Accountant is I reckon
Doubt it, at least he's keeping the medical team busy to earn their wages

I'm sure the accounts don't care. Injuries are just part of the sport but for the player himself it must be so frustrating to keep getting injured. It must suck for morale.

I'm sure nobody is more frustrated about the injuries than he is

Aye, in previous years I think he might have been less bothered but he seemed to have turned a corner in preseason and looked a lot happier and engaged with the rest of the team.

The timings aren’t great optics wise, but I do think it’s coincidence that he’s back around the time of the international break. He did seem like he’d turned a corner pre season for us and imagine he’ll be choking to get back out there.

However, if he’s not fit enough for the bench tomorrow but still goes on international duty, that won’t sit well with a lot of fans. Especially as we’re so light on options currently. If Ange thinks he can do 15/20 off the bench if needed, he’ll be on the bench.

I'd be interested to know what percentage of games he's been available for in the time he's been here. Would be surprised if it was much higher than a quarter.

Didn't he miss the last international round? They have international fixtures across 3 consecutive months so there is always a chance he returns near another one.
