I think that’s harsh. It’s clear we have far more chance of getting at least some of our money back on Gio. I think he’s just a case of the wrong player at the wrong time for us. Came into a club in chaos and spent much of his time injured.

Where as Ndombele is a bone idle chancer who’s wasting his talent. We’ll likely have him stuck on the books draining 200k a week out of the budget for the next few years.
Lo celso robbed us just as much, rubbed it in our faces by performing whenever he wasn’t at spurs.

together they were beyond disappointing. The brief moments of lo celso were as rare as ndombele. They left us “almost” preferring winks haha

Did we consider Lo Celso as the Eriksen replacement ? Was he a 10 ? Or an 8 ? And was Ndombele a 10 or 8 ? Depending upon the stats people used to interchange their roles as a coping mechanism. Oh X has no goals and assists ? he is an 8 mate...lol
This was the problem for me. Once ndombele showed he was no where near the box to box mid we saw vs man City, that then left us with 2 players who were both a bit between positions. And with GLC the whole Argentina thing, a few injuries and it just looked like he was a square peg in a round hole. I hope we can structure a deal with some sell on clause / decent add ons, as do think his ceiling (esp in easier league) is high. But can understand that the initial fee can't be that high given what he hasn't done for us (and state if finances elsewhere)

I think the original plan is GLC replaces Eriksen and Ndombele replaces Dembele, but it turns out that both of them are disgrace

I really think Lo Celso is a good player, just didn't work out in the prem. I think he just needs space and time as his quality shows for argentina and villareal. Wish him the best but hope he finds a new team soon

sorry for picking this one out specifically, not having a go but I keep reading reading the general sentiment quite often around here - but wasn´t there a time, albeit probably a rather short one, when he was seen as one of the, if not the best player at Spurs? Late Poch days, early Mourinho perhaps? Between injuries, so granted, must have been a short spell but I vividly remember him being praised on here.

Ultimately it didn´t work out obviously, but I don´t remember GLC being labelled a total failure from the get go. More a case of "what could/should have been" as for a while, he ran our midfield, unless I am totally off - I´m sure I´ll be corrected in that case.

I think he´s a good player but just not suited. But not going to lie, I was excited when he has signed, the thread on him was the one I F5´ed most often back in 2019

He is a good player, and for all the hate he gets he’s just not been used properly here which is down to him not fitting our systems. He looks good for Argentina as he plays in a 3 man midfield, he cannot play in a double pivot unless there is also a 10 dropping in on defend and he cannot play right wing which for some reason we kept trying him in.
When he looked good for us under Mourinho he was playing the deeper role with a 10 in front as it allowed him to dribble and then assist the assister which he’s good at.
for betis he looked good as he played centrally as a 10 and for villareal he played centrally as a second striker and had a free role.
I’m not saying we should keep him blah blah just saying it’s simply a square peg in a round hole how he’s been used. Put him in cities midfield 3 or in liverpools I bet he would look very good

You are right, and people forget he was playing through an injury for us under Mourinho in that first season in the run in to get us Europa and Mourinho praised him so much for putting his body on the line for us.

Didn't work out.

Really, one goal in the league in over 50 appearances is absolutely shocking for an attacking midfielder.

Wish him all the best though.

People keep saying he's a good player it just hasn't worked here. He's really not. I can remember more good ndombele moments than this guy. What has her got a couple of goals and a couple of assists.

People still make excuses for this guy? Crazy.
People will always have different interpretations of events despite us only seeing things from afar.

We have no idea if his issue was a lack of dedication, playing position and style, lack of settling in, or a mixture of a bunch of factors.

It hasn't worked out and it appears he's willing to leave once we receive a suitable offer.

Time to move on.

If you watch him for Betis and Argentina, he clearly is a good player.

Not performing well at one club or one league doesn't mean you are shit.

He obviously has talent but he is too slow for the prem, need to just cut our losses and move on

He's a clearly a good player. He was the standout player for Villareal in their champions league run, and was a key player in a good Copa America winning Argentina team.

He never really got a consistent run for us due to injury, and when he did play it was mainly for god awful defensive Mourinho or Nuno sides. Where the ball was treated as a hot potato by our team. He's clearly a player who thrives in possession-based teams, and arguably that is why La Liga suits him better.

Some players just never adapt to life in the prem for whatever reason. It doesn't make them "awful" "shit" "waste of time" or whatever hyperbolic nonsense fans want to spout. These things happen.

Players like Veron and Forlan never succeeded in the league. But still had good careers, and were considered some of the best players of their generation.

Yes but money fixes everything and they got paid a lot so.

I considered Lo Celso in the 3 of the 4231 system under Poch either central or inside right. I'm sure Ndombele was brought in to be in the 2. Ultimately neither one of them suits a midfield 2 and neither has shown enough in the final 3rd for the attack either. With the 343 now I consider Kulusevski as the replacement for Lo Celso for inside right. Bentancur replaced Ndombele for the midfield 2. They're both much better quality and better fit for the formation.

He played his best football early on for about 2-3 months under Jose Mourinho. Not sure what happened to him, a combination of losing hunger after the permanent deal and injuries maybe.

Should have got Defoe in 2 years ago to teach Lo Celso how to put some power behind a shot.

He never wanted to play for us - you could clearly see it in his attitude and commitment. He wants to play and live in Spain and to be honest I can't blame him. Was a terrible signing.
