I can see him being with us until late into the window. All the interest is from Spain and none of them can offer close to what most of us deem an acceptable offer. I think it's also compounded by the fact that Torres is our second/third choice LCB target and Gio is a bargaining chip there.

A.Madrid certainly would be able to offer us close to what he's worth.

Our problem is that it's obvious we are trying to get rid so clubs will try and low ball us or even just take him on loan instead. Yes he won't be at the club but letting a £40m asset depreciate so readily is not something a club run sustainably can afford to do.

Hate that any time a player flops all kinds of emotional failings are attributed to them, as opposed to the reality that most transfers don’t work out.

Also makes things awkward when a player turns it around and people have to pretend they didn’t spend two years calling Matt Doherty a useless prick.

I wonder if it might be prudent to keep him (maybe just extend the loan, but still own him) through the '22 World Cup. He looks to be a starter for a contending Argentina side and I could see his value going up after a great WC.

I would be all for using him in a swap deal for Torres, and I highly suspect that if Bastoni falls through, we will seriously consider that option. But if no Torres deal arises, and Spanish clubs are skint. I don't see the point of selling him for a cut price deal this summer. Just loan him out again.

I think he would be a great fit for atletico

Him and De Paul are good together for national team so saw this link coming. Hopefully this gets Villareal into action.

In regards to Spurs looking at swap deals etc. Hermoso may come back on the radar if this is true or one of their versatile forwards like Cunha, Correa etc?

Great news. Unlike Villareal, Atletico aren't afraid of splashing out on players.

Doubt we'd get too much for him regardless, but the amount Villareal were offering is a bit of a joke. He's worth £20m at the very least, and even that would be a bargain.

if this has any legs, carasco (sp?) coming the other way would be great. Good player who could fill in a few positions

As every club in La Liga except Real they currently have financial problems. With Morata and Saul returning from loan they won't splash out on players

Doesn't say much other than, Atleti are very interested in him. Simeone wanted him when he was at Betis. Now, they will match what Villareal has to offer or more and convince the player...Also mentions Villareal are very keen to keep him

I *think* this is the actual article. Translation underneath.

Lo Celso seduces Simeone

Atlético keeps an eye on Lo Celso, 26, who has played these months on loan at Villarreal. This interest is connected to the future of Lemar and Carlos Soler.

Atlético likes Giovani Lo Celso. For a long time, actually, because he already liked him when he stood out at Betis (2018-19) , but now he is once again interested in signing him. The sports management sees him as a footballer who fits perfectly into the team and Simeone is convinced of that. Tottenham, owner of his rights, is open to a transfer after having loaned him to Villarreal.

The rojiblanco club already tested his signing three summers ago. Betis had exercised the purchase option on PSG and had many suitors for the Argentine, who finally left for Tottenham. Atleti, who did not reach what Betis asked for, approached James, although in the end they did not sign him either. Now the situation of Lo Celso, 26, has changed and he is very willing for a change of scenery.

The footballer has not finished settling in the Premier and that is why in the last winter market he left on loan to Villarreal, with whom he played 16 League games and 6 Champions League games (all possible) in four months. El Submarino has been delighted and also intends to keep the footballer in property . That is to say, Atleti will have to, at least, match what the La Cerámica club puts on the table and then convince the player.

Reinforcements for the midfield

Atlético expects movements in the center of the field. So far Héctor Herrera has left and Saúl returns from his loan at Chelsea. There will be more reinforcements. The club likes Carlos Soler a lot, a very interesting market opportunity and with characteristics similar to those of Lo Celso, although the Valencian player is right-handed and the Argentine is left-handed. That is, they could be complementary. The rojiblanca sports management makes numbers, although it is very difficult for both to arrive at the same time. Soler has the advantage that he has a good connection with Koke and Llorente of the National Team, although Lo Celso also has it with De Paul in the albiceleste.

For the middle , an affordable pure pivot is also sought , after Kamara's option escaped. Of what is in the squad, the club has Saúl and now the great unknown is Lemar . The Frenchman, whose contract ends in 2023, has not responded to the renewal offer and the sports management could seek a sale this summer so that he does not leave for free in a year. If the 11th comes out, with a good line-up in the Premier, Atlético will need a couple of midfielders with much more reason.

Didnt the Villareal chairman come out and say they cant afford him but he's the main target, yet they have to move players on or something to pay for him?

Lo Celso did not work out for us but does not mean he is a bad player.. he is a main player in the Argentina Team so worth way more than £20m and we should demand more than that.. Loan to buy perhaps at a decent price.

I’d imagine levy would be wanting a bit more than that for him as well

It was very disappointing when it appeared only Villareal were in for him. Atletico are much more likely to put up the money.
