Looking at Betis web it's funny to see them trying to logically state that we don't have room for him.

At the moment they have in players for those positions, Eric Dier, Viktor Wanyama, Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Christian Eriksen, Delle Alli and Josh Onomah.

They have to sell players in midfield before they can buy.

Why do people keep using this as some sort of argument? It makes zero sense

Because they are a small club that should know their place. They should provide the big clubs with players at knockdown prices and never dare to improve and challenge the status quo.

If we buy Lo Celso why would we not start him? I don't quite get the rotation idea as him being a squad player but not first team, surely the point is that we will start different players in different games without dropping the quality which is where we've suffered previously, it's what title challengers do unless of course people think Poch and the the rest of the club don't want to challenge for titles.
I agree with the overall sentiment of your post, but also have to note that a massive part of Leicester and Chelsea's recent title wins was that they were able to field the same 11 week-in, week-out. Even Liverpool last year were able to field mostly the same team over the course of the season - they had injuries but the key was that they were here and there. Our issue last season was not that the replacement players were massively inadequate but the fact that we often had to play so many of them at once.

I happen to think that we will keep Eriksen, sign Ndombélé and also add Lo Celso, who will see a lot of game time in rotation with Winks, Eriksen and Dele.

How things have changed for us...

For absolute clarity, I know you're taking the piss.

The new distribution of tv rights in spain is starting to take effect. They are not on a par with the prem yet but the smaller teams don't face the financial problems they once did. So if you want to buy one of their players they are now in a much stronger position in negotiations. It's a good thing for football.

I am amazed that those Betis fans know who Onomah is.

Now suspicious that the regular members of the Youth Thread are Betis fans! :sneaky: :ROFLMAO:

Absolutely. Your post made me think back to a time when we were in Betis' shoes and any time we got close along came someone (usually Ferguson) to put us back in our place.

I also agree with the overall sentiment of your post but remember that neither Leicester or Chelsea had to bother with CL football when they won the title. You are right about the injuries though because last season we were decimated and I mean that pretty well literally.

Yeah, as others have said, the great thing about Lo Celso is his versatility. We could either play him behind Eriksen, instead of him or alongside him. It would also mean the onus to create wouldn't be placed squarely on Eriksen's shoulders and Kane wouldn't need to drop so deep all the time.

Without him, however, I feel we'll still struggle a bit to create from midfield and control games against big teams, especially when Eriksen is injured or having an off day.

Regarding the bloated squad issue - this may be the case for a bit but surely Wanyama will either be sold or phased out, Sissoko is almost 30 and Winks has injury issues. I think Lo Celso would still get tons of game time, and it would only increase with each season.
Is the opinion now that we have to sell Eriksen to get in Lo Celso or is the deal independent seems to be conflicting news on this

That we will only pay a certain figure for him, read that as not dependent on Eriksen leaving, and will pay more if Eriksen leaves

I still reckon well get him. Levy's stepped up for Ndombele but I believe that theres less risk in playing the game a little for Lo Celso. If theres less interest in him, and he wants to join Poch, then we can bide our time a bit more to bring the price down.
I also don't believe that this deal is dependant on anyone leaving.

This talk about Ndombele being the replacement for Dembele took me back to last summer when I was told Poch saw Sissoko as that man, I know , I poo poo it too, but...…...

Can't for the life of me think why. Very different players. How Poch saw Sissoko as capable of beating a press I don't know. Sissoko has the physical attributes but there's no comparison technically.

My belief was it was going to be Ndombele and Lo Celso effectively replacing Dembele and Eriksen, that’s why we went so clearly after both.
I think the fact Eriksen is now looking like staying is what’s out the brakes on things. We can’t justify that sort of outlay without recouping some somewhere.
The most logical thing for me would be to shift Lamela and then bring Lo Celso in, as I’m not sure Lamela has the dynamism and goal threat to mix it with Son, Alli, Moura etc in that attacking bank of players, equally he’s not really a CM in the way Eriksen can sit deeper. Throw in the stories yesterday about Bale or Zaha, who’d be a better fit than Lamela.
But the ITK suggests Lamela is wanted by Poch.

Dier, Sissoko, Wanyama
Ndombele, Eriksen, Lo Celso, Winks
Bale/Zaha, Moura, Alli, Son, Kane

Can we juggle that many?

Turkish media (I know, I know) are linking us with Eljif Elmas again, saying we've bid 15m EUR for him.

Could be a way to scare Betis into dealing for Lo Celso.

Could be a genuine alternative at a more affordable price.

Could be horse shit.

Maybe with Eriksen staying Elimas may be a project alternative to Lo Celso with the extra funds going to Bale/Zaha instead.

Thought the same mate, just reporting a year late what I had heard, didn't dare post then :ROFLMAO: The same end product mind

I imagine it'll be Dier (£40m) and Wanyama (£10m) going to bring in another potential £50m. I'd bring in West Brom's Rekeem Harper or similar for £15m to replace Dier.

Aurier £12m (half price) / KWP £15m / Janssen £7 / Nkoudou £5 / Trippier £25m / Onomah £15m / CCV £5m / Demeble £11m

All that lot could bring in upto £145m, with the key sale being Dier rather than Eriksen.

Moura may be the one to make way for another £50m.

Just some thoughts.

I'd be tempted to buy Janssen and Nkoudou myself for £12.

They could re-grout my bathroom.
