If we’re replacing him with someone almost as good, then we’ve really not learned ANYTHING

Not really, he is good enough for the first team, just can never stay fit. If we get someone even with the same ability but not injured like Lamela, it's an improvement.

We also won't be attracting any real big names just now, so need to look for potential really.

I don't really get the negativity towards Lamela, he was played by Poch and by Jose (as sub most of the time) when not injured and I trust their judgement. I agree he did frustrate me sometimes but he tried unlike some others in the squad I could name who don't have as much talent and weren't even trying sometimes.

I don't get this view point. Lamela was one of the best technically gifted players at the club. How many can score rabonas? It's a seriously hard skill. It wasn't his ability, nor his passion or effort, just his body breaking down.

I wish him all the best. Sure he had his injury issues but he fought every time he put the Spurs shirt on. More than I can say for a lot of our current team.

I think the slower pace of La Liga should hopefully suit him a little more.

He never did live up to the potential we all hoped for, but then again, many never do. He had technical ability and passion and hard work, but we have needed to upgrade on his position for many seasons. He was incredibly inconsistent and very frustrating.

He was signed with much fanfare, similar to the hype Gil has in a way, although Lamela was coming here with a fair bit more firs team experience at Roma, and we all hoped he would become a first 11 player, but he never really claimed a spot as his own. He was always a squad player.

It looks a fabulous deal for all involved, a great move for him too.

No but id say they're pretty important for an attacking midfielder.

So not creating chances (it's only an assist if the other guy scores), trying through balls, successful passes, shots on target, take ons?

He may not have been as talented (or productive) as Bale (and many of our other players / ex-players), but he always gave more of his heart to the club than Bale or the others.

Gonna miss him. Good luck and all the best Coco. Hope he is able to get more games in a slower league.

Time for Coco to go but I'll always love him. Despite his injuries issues and limitations on the pitch he's fought tooth and nail for the club and I get the impression he really loves us. A criticism of modern day footballers is that they are mercenaries and Lamela has bucked the trend in this regard. In addition to this, he has been useful for us on the pitch. He's scored some amazing goals, he's not a bad ball carrier and his tenacity adds an element to his game that most forwards lack. Ultimately, his one-footedness and lack of end product has let him down but I'll still remember him fondly as a player.

Has been one of my favourite players. A god of the high press back in that time of ancient history under poch when we did that kind of thing.

Leaves a huge gap in the squad...a huge sh*thousery gap :)

I could be wrong here but I believe avb and the club were responsible for most of his torrid injuries when he signed as avb kept playing him when he kept telling them there was something wrong and wasn’t fit which to a total injury breakdown and I personally think that’s one of the main reasons the club has stood by him . I wish him all the best whatever you think of him whether he was fully fit or not he gave his heart body and soul to this club and supporters it makes proud to have him as a spurs player

The last one to leave of my three favourites during the last 6-7 seasons (the other two Dembele and Eriksen) if this happen.

I'm happy he gets a great move to a top team.

Yeh, its a good move for him tbh. He'll get decent minutes for a side in the Champions League and Seville is a nice place to live.

Erik is the best coming on in the last five minutes of a game holding on for a win killing time and annoying the fuck out of the opposition players, in the game.
If this comes off I wish him nothing but the best.
Thanks for the memories.

One of the best Lamela anecotes from Rose:

'Before the Man City game (which ended 2-1 to Tottenham on February 14) I was having dinner with Lamela and I was still asking him if he reckoned we can finish top four'

'I've never seen someone look at me with such disgust.

'He said: "My friend, we can win the league."
