That’s simply not true. He has always lost the ball quite often. He’s a high risk/reward player in that respect. He does lose possession but can create things.
That is however the exact definition of a creative attacking midfielder - as you said earlier a high risk/reward player who will just as likely get the through ball assist as give the ball away.

Unlike say, Skipp last season who when he played kept it simple.

So I think you are right, but that is in no way a criticism of Lamela as that's basically his job in the side.

Excited to see what he can make of it this season. I was wondering, hasn't his long range shooting and direct free kicks regressed quite a bit? His corners are still top quality so it's a bit odd.

It's almost as if creativity can be measured in different ways but fact is nobody on our team holds a candle to Eriksen in passing.

Harry kane sure can in my mind!

Haha I absolutely love Kanes passing, it's why I'd love to see us switch to 4-3-3 because he would be an absolute monster in that role, I'd say threaded balls are the last thing he needs to master though, Eriksen has that in his locker but certainly those long range passes especially out wide Kane has that in his locker.

I think a 433 will be more on the cards this season in particular if eriksen leaves which i think he will. Kane flanked by pacey wide forwards in moura and son could be quite tasty. Kane threading those passes to get those to on the run to then follow into the penalty area.

I think lamela coukd be great in the point of the 3 behind the front 3. But he would have alli to contend with.

Well I love the possible synergy between Lamela and Dele playing because you can have a 4-3-3 where Lamela is on the right wing and dele can play left side of midfield or possibly in the 10 spot but there's also times where Lamela can play that central role and Dele moves out wide left which he has played for us in the past as Son goes over to the right side. The problem is you're sacrificing the pace of either Moura/Son but I see that as a real possibility as Poch seldom goes Moura/Kane/Son.

Don't think he was terrible at all, he didn't dictate the game early on and made 1 mistake but he played a couple of great balls for Kane first and early 2nd half and when Eriksen came on; He, Eriksen, Tanguy and Moura were enjoying eachothers company with some fantastic fast football and Lamela combined good dribbling with some great passes in there. Also his tenacity was the reason we got an opportunity to score the winner vs what was up to that point a very astute Villa defence.

I thought he was pretty good today but I was distracted for a lot of the game. What's a good site for match stats these days?

Personally not sure he has the quality to be a number ten for a top 4 side. I love his tenacity and he does have the eye for a through ball but he slows us down an awful lot. The difference between him and Eriksen is huge.

He’s not good in these matches where a team parks the bus against us and clogs up at the space in front of the defence. He just gets lost.

He’s much better later on when play is broken or when we’re playing a team who comes out against us and leaves space to work in.

Also his cross for sissoko who fluffed it from 6 yards. that was the bet chance of the game. There are some players who get criticized no matter what. I think lucas was the worst player. did nothing at all.

I'm a big fan of what Lamela brings, I enjoy when he comes in central and dribbles at other teams and I think he plays great passes, I think he'll kick on if he gets a run of games, He's not Eriksen but he doesn't have to be because he offers something different but Lamela is certainly a player people love or hate.

agree he didnt do shit until he set up the winner. he wouldnt have started if dele or sonny were available. but he set up the winning goal.
We watched different games or your reading the match thread.
He put Kane in twice and put it on a plate for Sissoko.
Plus his tenacity set up Kane for the winner.

Agree the game we I watched and the match thread is polar opposite. He had 3 lovely through passes and a top class cross for sissoko chance. He did lost ball sometimes but he created more than anyone in this game.
