He drove me mad last season, I thought he was over rated by many of our fans. He looked disinterested, lethargic in a Spurs jersey. Mind you the performance of his colleagues wasn't much better.

But fuck me I love him. The leadership role has really been the making of him it seems. And playing beside a competent CB partner who actually wants the ball too in VDV can only help. Fantastic footballer.
Last season was extremely frustrating to watch. The players should have had more pride in their own performances even if they hated Conte.

Phoning it in last season was really poor. Hopefully they feel like they owe us after that.

Feels a bit like Vertonghen before/after Sherwood. Outstanding in his first year and got into the Premier League team of the season. Awful in his second and looked like he didn't want to be there. Then under Poch he formed arguably our greatest ever CB partnership when paired with Alderweireld.

We can talk about players needing to be more professional - but don't underestimate the power of psychology and not turning up to work hating your boss, particularly in top level sport.

Yeah well he's back on his feet and continuing... It looked terrible in the replays though.

Edit - I had to step out but I think the Bolivian chap got a straight red for it.
Hopefully he isn't carrying an injury and continuing.
Really annoys me the way international teams don't respect the club teams and continue playing them if carrying any slight injury or aren't fully fit.

Fuck I bet that stung a bit. He’ll be ok, he gives it out rough, I’m sure he can take a bit too.

Bloody hell that could have been an ankle breaker. That god he's not badly injured. Read card fully deserved.
