I will say Davies is still our first string lcb over lenglet.I was talking in terms of his ability to pass. Davies has a lot of great qualities, but he's never been a particularly great progressive passer.

Pretty sure he actually said "Also, with three defenders, he can give us more than to play with four at the back"
If he keeps playing how he did last season he will be very hard to shiftI will say Davies is still our first string lcb over lenglet.
And if Conte can improve Davies that much, imagine what he can do with lenglet. If he keeps playing how he did last season he will be very hard to shift
Pretty sure he means he will look better in our back 3 than a back 4 like barcaYeah Conte did say that. I couldn't quite work out what he meant. Did he mean he gives us the option to play a back 4 or was it that he is better in a 3 I wonder.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. Either way, it's nice to have options.I will say Davies is still our first string lcb over lenglet.
He played well towards the end of the season, but during our rocky period, he was pretty awful and wasn't pulling up any trees under Nuno (but then no one was). A good 1/3rd of a season is encouraging, but if Lenglet meets his potential, Davies will need to level up again and be consistent across the entire season. (And I hope he does!)If he keeps playing how he did last season he will be very hard to shift

Yeah what I should have said was having them both fighting for that spot just adds to our options and the competitiveness within the squad. Davies had an outstanding 3/4 of the season, and was a contender for player of the year behind Son (competing with Dier). He played well towards the end of the season, but during our rocky period, he was pretty awful and wasn't pulling up any trees under Nuno (but then no one was). Found this Twitter thread very interesting. Nathan has compiled a bunch of Lenglet's mistakes for Barca and asked fans to judge them.
While some definitely weren't great, it's interesting to see how marginal a number of them were (or downright harsh). Feel like on another day, and perhaps in a more physical league like the Prem, he gets away with at least half of them, while the own goal is just pure bad luck IMO.

Their press caused us massive problems in the same fixture last year so given his passing game it could be a blessing having him in there.Could be the making of him if he starts against Southampton with Davies injured. Hopefully he impresses!
