Pretty sure he actually said "Also, with three defenders, he can give us more than to play with four at the back"

Yeah Conte did say that. I couldn't quite work out what he meant. Did he mean he gives us the option to play a back 4 or was it that he is better in a 3 I wonder.

If he keeps playing how he did last season he will be very hard to shift
He played well towards the end of the season, but during our rocky period, he was pretty awful and wasn't pulling up any trees under Nuno (but then no one was). A good 1/3rd of a season is encouraging, but if Lenglet meets his potential, Davies will need to level up again and be consistent across the entire season. (And I hope he does!)

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Either way, it's nice to have options.

I mentioned this before - but this is a lot like the summer when Ben Davies joined. The debate then was whether he was coming in to replace Rose.

Really he was coming in because we had no other back-up to Rose, and when Rose was injured the prior season, Vertonghen had to play LB - and he hated that.

Davies came in to provide competition and cover to Rose.

Fast-forward to last season, and we had no cover for LCB. It was a glaring hole whenever we tried someone else there.

Lenglet is coming in to provide competition and cover to Davies.

Yeah what I should have said was having them both fighting for that spot just adds to our options and the competitiveness within the squad. It's all good for the team

Davies had an outstanding 3/4 of the season, and was a contender for player of the year behind Son (competing with Dier).

Found this Twitter thread very interesting. Nathan has compiled a bunch of Lenglet's mistakes for Barca and asked fans to judge them.

While some definitely weren't great, it's interesting to see how marginal a number of them were (or downright harsh). Feel like on another day, and perhaps in a more physical league like the Prem, he gets away with at least half of them, while the own goal is just pure bad luck IMO.

Edit: @KSen how the fuck is this off topic?! It's literally about Lenglet :ROFLMAO:

Yesterday highlighted how weak we are at LCB with no Davies.

I haven't seen enough of Lenglet to form an opinion but I'm sure he'll be better than Sanchez reprising there.

Sanchez is totally different on the left, completely out of his depth. I guess Lenglet would struggle on the right to be fair. I can't wait to see him start, I guess in time for Rangers.

It doesn't sound like Davies will be out and we're best sticking with the same back 3 to start the season.

Since we’re revising some old (negative) opinions today, I must admit he impressed. Lenglet’s passing and overall comfort level with the side were extremely promising signs, especially being very vocal and looking to take responsibility.

That one long ball to Richy was exactly what we’ve been missing from defense.
