Must admit I am surprised there’s no option to buy.

Would love an ITK to reassure us why that’s not an issue as at the moment I can’t help but think we could get screwed over next year if we want to keep him.

Only thing I can think of is that we discussed it but couldn't agree on a fee? Anyone know if an option fee can be agreed at a later date or has to be agreed upon the signing of the loan deal?

Option - could be loads of reasons why there is no agreement, none of which matter now.

1. Player may not have agreed to a long-term transfer.
2. Spurs might have wanted an option, while Barça wanted an obligation - neither side willing to budge.
3. Teams could not agree on an option (or obligation) price.
4. Timing - Spurs wanted player in ASAP, negotiating over option would have extended negotiations.
5. Spurs might not have wanted the option - really only looking for an inexpensive short-term solution

What matters now - Lenglet is here now, and a Spurs player for the season. Gives us competition and cover for Davies. Lets hope he does well!

it's extremely difficult to convince a player to leave Barca and Real Madrid we need to remember. He could have easily just stayed and collected his paycheque.

Or there are plenty of other preferential terms in the loan that could benefit us if we do decide we want to buy him.

What if there's a clause that says they have to give use first refusal if they sell him? Or that we don't pay a loan fee if he plays x games or something else beneficial.

There are many ways to remove the epidermis from the feline. Is there an option to buy? No. Does that mean its a bad deal? No, definitely not.

I’m fairly confident there is some favourable agreements in place. No way as I said couple days ago, Daniel Levy parting with 7-10m, with nothing in his favour, if we choose to pursue 12 months later.

Yes, I missed off the "s" by mistake. Sorry about the whole post, mate. Was just posting an article I thought might be useful.

I got the impression you thought I was trying to be 'smart' in my original post - I wasn't (Just trying to impart my take on it from 20 years in the media) - but re-reading it I can see how the tone might have come across that way. It wasn't my intention.

All good.

If there isn’t it seems a bit daft, which is not something we would typically expect of Levy.

Would query how enforceable that agreement is … sounds like gentlepeople’s agreement stuff.

“If we want to buy him at the end of the loan you’ll give us a good price?”

“Oh yeah. Sure. Very good price. Sure thing.”

Well, they could have a contractually agreed transfer fee in the event that they agreed to sell him to us next season. Would have provisions about dates etc ofc. Or that they'd allow us to match any bid etc. Seems perfectly possible to me. Don't see why that wouldn't be "enforceable" if there was consideration etc, which there would be if it was a provision in the loan agreement.

People are getting too hung up on the option thing. Worst case scenario he plugs a gap in the squad for the immediate future - next year we revisit the issue in a different market. You can only play what’s in front of you, and we’ve done exceptionally well in other parts of the pitch. Can’t have it all.

I understand you. But I stand to be corrected. Would be very suprised if there was not ‘adage’ in the contact to pursue ‘Option/Obligation’ at some point. Because it is not part of initial contract it is be deemed ‘straight loan’. And considering Barca’s financial situation, Taxes etc. Would not surprise me one bit. But knowing how Daniel Levy works, I just cannot see something not being in there.

He has a 265 mil £ release clause...
All La Liga players have a release clause (it's mandatory) and most of them are mental; I think a few Barca players have it set at €1bn. Seems like a pretty dumb rule to have when everyone just circumvents it this way but it is what it is.

We wouldn't have played ball if there wasn't something in it for us. Let's see if it even matters. He has to perform well for Conte for purchase to even be mentioned.
