Davies competition while we wait another year to see how the lcb market plays out with Bastoni/Gvardiol next summer.

Pretty simple.

Wasn't totally stacked though was it. The player didn't want to play for us, was sulking the place out, and Ramos said he didn't want a disruptive player in his squad. Levy would have kept him and let him rot but Juande pushed for him to go.

I thought that was common knowledge?
Not to mention he was also our record sale at the time, and still is our 3rd highest.

Agreed. You can only play the hand you're dealt, can't you?

Hypothetically, if he was our only CD addition this window due to our primary targets unavailability, how would everyone feel? Obviously I’m hoping Bastoni becomes available again later in the window but it’s unlikely I’d have thought, one certainly can’t plan for it.

Personally I’d rather wait and get a top target then spend money on option C or D but just curious what others think?
I could live with it as there wasn't a lot wrong with Davies, Dier, and Romero with Sanchez as cover for Romero/Dier.
The main issue for me was to provide some sort of cover for Davies and we now have that.

Maybe they aren't good for them on FIFA?

I struggle to believe people can be such experts on players who play abroad unless they watch them every game they play. It is the same with Spence. People are basing their opinions of him off of the FA Cup games and not the whole season at Forest playing in the Championship. I remember people desperate for Nkoudou and saying we should sign him. Equally I remember posters not wanting Wanyama or Alderweireld. Fans have to trust people like Conte and Paratici, who have earnt the respect in their careers to make the right decision.

mate its not difficult to watch football these days you can literally watch it every night of the week - we have the La Llga channel and Barca are on there all the time its not difficult to follow them and there players - Forest again the Championship you can virtually see every game its the same with Italian football German and French football (though i don't watch that much) - most nights of the week we seem to have a game on in our house don't always watch them with any intent but it really aint that hard to form opinions on players

Here we go…. But clubs still sorting out details? So we are EXACTLY where we were a few days ago since romano’s last tweet on this!?

I think Romano gets uneccessary stick at times but this summer he is taking the reposts of the same information to another stupid level. Post once it is almost there and then only post again when it’s 100% complete you numpty!

Sure I've seen someone mention this, or something similar this window.

Dunno, maybe it's just me. o_O :shifty: :banghead:

I really don't understand how this is the best solution for LCB, IMO seems like a bad deal (especially if there's no buy option). Also, why are people so confident that Bastoni/Gvardiol would come to us next year?

I don't think we need to wait. We can get Lenglet on loan and still get a top player at left centre back later in the window if they come up. It wouldn't be the end of the world, Lenglet or maybe the other player could fill in at centre back. I'm sure there are other options though who can play centre back. I'm surprised De Vrij hasn't been mentioned tbh but I'm sure Paratici has a number of options.

If we did get Lenglet only it would be disappointing but its still an upgrade on Rodon.

You guys. :hilarious:

Plenty unimpressed when he was a potential signing, plenty now want an option on the supposed not good enough player.

Few slight concerns.

What will be different next summer window regarding Bastoni/Gvardiol. Surely there'll still be plenty of competition for their services, furthermore, what if we fail to secure Champions league football.

I'm all for waiting, but got to admit, some assurances would certainly allay some concerns if we are indeed to wait.

We don't have to get Bastoni or Gvardiol next summer for it to be sensible business. Neither of our top targets were attainable, but we filled the place in the squad with a player possessing the attributes that Conte was seeking for minimal cost.

If Lenglet rediscovers his confidence he could easily displace Davies and represent a real upgrade to our best XI, and we'd have the inside track on signing him next summer if Bastoni and Gvardiol remain out of our reach. Even in the scenario where he continues his middling form, we add squad depth in a position where it was previously lacking.

There isn't exactly a wealth of left-footed CBs who can ping perfect cross-field diagonals and consistently put the ball on the RWB's foot. We couldn't manage to get the long-term solution nailed down, but we've now put ourselves in reasonably good position for this season with the flexibility to address the situation on a more permanent basis a year from now.

Maybe the people who are unimpressed are not the ones who are wanting an option to buy?

Impossible to believe, I know.

Nah, they just don't know what they want. I've seen 'em at the Toby carvery when the chef asks what meat do they want. They ask for all 3, coz they can't make their feckin mind up what they want.

Just a quick reply on De Vrij, he has really looked like he’s lost a step this last season. He was never the fastest but he certainly was getting caught out much more then the previous season. He would ? be behind Dier at CCB.. There is a reason why they wanted to replace him with Bremer. Personally I’m really glad we haven’t gone near him as I think he would really struggle in the PL.

For me, the only question mark about a viable option that we haven’t gone for is Pau Torres. He isn’t on the same level as Bastoni and Givardiol but he’s still good and fits our remit. Beyond that I’m really not sure who we should target that would significantly improve us. Who would you suggest?

Who wouldn’t want to come to a team that’s just won the quadruple?

We really should put an option into this one. Regardless its a must for Tottenham as a self preservation reason.
