So it begins. I hope PSG's interest is genuine, but I'm sure we'll be leaking stories left, right and centre if it increases the fee we'll receive.

We've also already had ITK on Eriksen getting 'pissy' which is another part of the PR machine. Getting the fans to the point where they want him to leave is a tactic we've used countless times before.

Yep. New links usually come out once things start moving along (as we saw with the ndombele and Man Utd rubbish) so maybe something has happened. We need it sorted soon either way. You’d think him returning to preseason training or not has to be some sort of watershed.

One thing that Solskjaer is right about is that they don't need to sell. They might be quite some way short on the pitch, but this is still Manchester United we are talking about and financially they remain a monster. They have a young inexperienced manager, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the powers that be at the club inform Pogba that he isn't going anywhere. It is not a good look for them to have a player like Pogba force a move.

It's even worse forcing a player to stay and turn the place toxic. There will be a media circus all season following Pogba and United around. Is Pogba likely on the basis of being forced to stay, put in his best season ever in a United shirt? Not very likely. They will be making a huge mistake and it's ego and pride getting in the way of what should be a straight forward decision. Cash in on the guy and rebuild.

Normally I would agree with you, but it's not like this squad isn't already toxic.

If Mourinho had only just been appointed, or if Guardiola was coming in now, there is not way Pogba would be going despite what he wants. The fact that everyone is assuming Pogba is off because it is Solksjaer at the helm is half the problem. How do United turn the growing perception that they are more 2009 than 2019 around and at least look like they think Solksjaer was the right appointment (but still, at least behind closed doors, plan for the possibilty that they may need to be replacing him a year from now). Letting your marquee player force a move is probably not high on your list of first steps.

They can afford to force Pogba to stay and stick him in the reserves if he sulks too much. They can afford to handle this in countless ways that we as a club could only dream of. What they cannot afford is for the perception of the club as a world powerhouse to continue to dwindle. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave, I am just saying that if I were on that board I might just be thinking "who does this little ***** think he is, we are the third biggest club in the world, and he is staying put until we tell him otherwise...."

Also if you are on the board, you are already thinking Solskjaer was probably a mistake. Wouldn't it make more sense to make a statement with Pogba that Manchester United are bigger than any player or troublesome agent, keep him for another year, by which time you bring in a manager who either may not want Pogba but would happily spend his transfer fee, or for whom Pogba might be willing to stay and play? I don't know, I just think to assume Pogba is off might be somewhat premature. Just ask De Gea...

Regardless of whether he stays or goes Eriksen has played this very badly, its clear that Madrid are meh about him and if he stays he has a massive point to prove to the fans but more importantly his team mates and the coaching staff. We're going to have far more competition for places and I'm not convinced that's the right environment for him, he seems at his best being the top man at Denmark.

Has he though?

He’s been honest that if a move comes to one of the very elite he’d like to experience it, if not will consider a new contract.
No demands or strikes or refusing to play, from afar it looks like he is just getting on with it. Refreshing considering what has happened here and what happens else where. An honest approach and one I can respect.

If he stays, the same amount of cheer from me.

Would not have Eriksen been better advised that if he has a wish to move to RM before a certain date and they were not interested he would stay at Spurs .... AND .... keep that to himself/Levy/Poch .
He has in the press mentioned his wish to move, I have no problem with that, he has been a perfect player for us causing zero problems, but he obviously want/wanted a new challenge, this makes us his non preferred destination in the future.
So, thank-you Christian and off you go.

He has not played it badly. Like @Shanks said he has been honest all along and very quiet and professional about it. He wanted to try something new, but if that didn't happen, he would stay with us.

And ITK yday from Herc stated that his deadline to commit (i suppose) is very soon, so we will see what happens.

He really couldn't have played it better if he wanted to try something new. We just as fans have to accept that he wants to try new things, and get over it & trust the club to find a suitable replacement.

We made Modrić stay when he wanted to go to Chelsea and he followed up with his best season for us. Very different personalities though I grant you.

It's his application of "the very elite" that could leave him looking like a numpty though. Barça, Real, Bayern, Juventus, Man City and Liverpool are the only teams that are a discernible step up from us at the moment. I even think Bayern and Juve are arguable given that their respective leagues are an uncompetitive stroll for them every year and we can pay him as much as either of them will.

PSG can fuck off. They're a nothing club that hasn't even been around for 50 years and has only been remotely relevant for a tiny portion of that.

Spurs tinted glasses?
