The move to the 343 has gotten the most out of him I think. He's getting more involved and doesnt seem to be crowded out of the game all the time now with no space. Stark contrast to August and September when he was just flat awful.

August/september we were playing Dier and Wanyama as CM2 and Eriksen was being shunted out to ARM and even RM when Janssen was brought on and we went 442. Alli and Kane were still hungover from the summer and we were just pretty poor as a team.

@yankspurs
Just to add, I do agree completely that the 3CB system does get better things out of Eriksen, but that's largely because he ends up getting shunted right in the 4231.

He's not a tackler, but makes up for it by anticipating passes on defense. He'll often see the pass before the offensive player and step into the lane forcing a pass elsewhere and slowing the attack. If he was a bit more athletic/explosive he could probably get a boat load of interceptions while playing a deeper role.

He's lucky that Lamela isn't fit. If he was, out of Eriksen and Alli playing behind Kane, Eriksen would be dropping out for Lamela much of the time.

No, he wouldn't.

Our new look 3 at the back formation is really 3-4-2-1 with the full backs in line with Wanyama and Dembele and 2 attacking midfielders supporting Kane.

Alli is guaranteed to start every game he's fit which, unless Pochettino drops Dembele to play Eriksen or Alli in CM, leaves one space for Lamela or Eriksen.

IMO Lamela, with his superior tracking back and athleticism would be Poch's first choice instead of Eriksen.

Lol, let's just ignore the fact that Eriksen dictates our play and is currently the most creative player in the league.

I love Lamela and will defend him on 99% of occasions, but I know Eriksen is better in all aspects apart from tracking back.

lamela is a very vital piece in the 4321, I'm not so sure he is in the 3-5-2. He brings a lot to the team but I think Eriksen is one of Poch's favourite players which is why he gets rested in the cup games.

Then why has Poch given Eriksen a pay increase and a new contract but not given Lamela one? He's the only player at the club Poch has never given a contract to - some players have been given several new ones but Lamela hasn't even been given one. I know how I interpret that and what it means for his future, so how do you explain this?

So you're saying the midfielder with the most assists in Europe would be dropped because Lamela tracks back more?

Really?

I adore Lamela. I'm one of his biggest fans. But you can't seriously believe this? Eriksen is quite possibly our most important player at the minute.

just because he hasn't signed a new contract doesn't mean he hasn't been offered one.

That is a good point.

I don't think we're letting our record signing run his contract down on purpose. You may think what you will of Lamela, but Levy would never allow him to leave on a free.

Against certain teams, I would love to see Eriksen next to Wanyama with Lamela (when fit) and Alli behind Kane in 3-4-2-1.

Told ya. Many times.
He's got more important things to do than tackle.
Its not tacklers we're short of.

Not just that but also the midfielder who covers the most ground in the PL which makes it even more ridiculous.
