Noticed that Eriksen had liked a couple of the Spurs instagram posts announcing the Ndombele signing. Probably means absolutely nothing, but found it interesting all the same.

I’m sure it means, nothing, but the more I think about it the more downbeat I’m getting about him leaving.

If anything, the signing of Ndombele has made me feel worse about it. Keeping Toby and Eriksen and adding Ndombele could really move us forward a level, but if Eriksen leaves I can’t help feel it’s one step forward and one step back again. Even if we add one or two of the midfielders we’ve been linked with.

For years now we have targeted and signed players who were coming to the end of their contract (eriksen being one of them)

Its not a surprise when one doesn't sign a new contract. Eriksen has made it clear that he wants to play for rm.

Rm may not be willing to pay 80m now but they will be mad not to pick him up for free in a year.

So the only scenario i see is Christian agrees terms with rm and signs for them next season.

Why would he sign a new contract? He is a player who is focused on his career. I very much doubt he will sign for anyone else, but I also doubt rm can turn him down on a free transfer.

Yeah the Ndombele high is already wearing off slightly, and I'm beginning to worry that we're going to bring in a few before offloading Toby and Eriksen to balance the books again. Keeping those two, whilst adding Ndombele, Sessegnon, a RB and Lo Celso/Ceballos leaves us in a position to have a go at the title if things go our way. If we add those players but lose Eriksen and Toby I'm with you in that we quite possibly end the window a little weaker than we started it, albeit maybe with a better balanced squad.

I just want clarity. Would be good to have a season without speculation around the manager or senior players constantly

We were so painfully slow transitioning the ball from defense to attack this year. Ndombele speeds up that link meaning he could feed Eriksen earlier between the lines meaning the defense isn't set for Son, Kane & Dele making runs.

100% with that.

If that were the case we would be doing things wrong, our top players and manager get linked away because they are good.

My only question with Eriksen is why didn't Eriksen open up the game more? He was also slow in getting the ball moving with many short passes often back and sides etc. I agree with NDombele the field will be more open, but my whole problem with Eriksen he did little to help in that regard (Im not saying he didn't create or score etc,its more about the fluidity)

I do not think it’s a step back rather than a change in style of how we play. The in the hole playmaker is being used less and less and more box to box midfielders are being used. Look at Liverpool, they sold coutinho but have improved as bought keita and fabinho. We could go with a strong three man midfield. Don’t get me wrong I love eriksen and preferred he stayed but I’m not sure he fits how we want to play long term

Honestly, as long as we reinvent the money in someone like GLC and hopefully another, I don’t mind if he leaves.

Few players stick around for as long as he has, and he’s served the club very well. He didn’t have a great end to the season and it might just be the right time for all parties to move on.

Yeah I know what you mean and I was having a similar discussion with another Spurs fan at work using Liverpool method as an example. No real playmaker, but a midfield that transitions play very quickly to the front players to do the damage.

The only issue is their fullbacks are far more productive than ours and provide a lot of assists to make up for that lack of a playmaker.

If we are going to use Liverpools model then we definitely need more productive fullbacks and they must be quick and athletic, capable of getting up and down the flank.

We will also need another quick wing forward to give us more depth with Son and Lucas. Pool have 2 very quick attackers either side of Firmino, on top of their quick fullbacks.

Taking my Spurs hat off and putting emotions aside, Eriksen would be mad to sign a new contract with us this summer. He can leave for free next year and receive a massive singing on fee. He wants to play for one of the really top tier clubs, not the money doping clubs like PSG or Man C, but the ones with real pedigree ... Barca, Real, Bayern, Juve who he can win the CL with. In January he can sign for one of those (*if* they want him) and get an 8-figure signing on fee and £200k+ a week, With us he'd get £200k a week and no signing on fee. From hearing how Levy operates, I do not think Poch would be allowed to pick him if he does not sign an extension and he will be forced out this summer. Ditto with Toby. I just wonder how long Levy is giving them to find a new clubs of their own choice.

EDIT: For what it is worth I would love it if he did sign an extension as with a bolsered CM behind him he can get his very best form back.

Disagree. There is very rarely speculation around Klopp because he's made it clear he isn't going anywhere

Renew his contract with sell clause next year if we don't win a trophy. 80m which is what we get for him this summer. Then, we get to keep Eriksen for another season, he's able to perform as he'll have a quality midfied behind him and if we don't win a trophy we cash in for same amount as we will get this year. Oh yeah, also give him loyalty bonus of a couple million for signing new contact.

Good idea but think he wants a change
Let's get in both Ceballos and Zaniolo
Both quality prospects

Poch has been utterly clear he wants to stay. He just jokes around with the press. Relieves the tedium of being asked the same question.

Remember Liverpool lost Coutinho not so long ago. Why would Kloop want to go anywhere though? He is at a massive commercial club, the ability to pay his players what they want, the ability to challenge with the big transfer fees and has just won the CL. Sure we are growing and improving and hopefully this season will be a massive step up for us.

Being linked with Madrid's Mariano Diaz. Him along with Ceballos could be some players to ask for in exchange for Eriksen (plus cash).
