You lot making me out to be the idiot. The journalist said ‘Forest are expected to sell today’ not ‘Forest are expecting to sell today’ which is what the post I responded to said.

Funnily enough, there’s a significant difference.

Funnily enough, there’s a very significant difference.

Some punctuation in your initial post would've made it a lot clearer, I genuinely couldn't understand it.

There is. But the state of your initial post mate...

Just a note based on little knowledge of this actual deal or what Forest want or are prioritising.

Brentford's 43m bid was rejected but we don't know the payment schedule or terms. We have quite a lot of money available for us today as the Kane fee had a hefty up-front percentage. So most likely even if we were offering a similar amount to Brentford our terms might be better.

Hope he proves a worthwhile addition. Only seen him properly in 3 games. Once standing out, the other 2 a bit meh.

The main thing I'm hoping for is he will bring pace. Looking at the first 3 games when we win the ball back, we really are trying to attack at pace and get the ball forward quickly. Kulusevski I think is picking up but is not blessed with pace and we still are not seeing Son back to his best yet.

This hasn’t been talked about enough. It should have lubricated more deals than it has.

I hope we sign Johnson and I hope he does well. But imho it's severely underwhelming to lose Kane for £100m and sign a work-in-progress wide forward we're paying a huge premium for (vs his performance in the PL) because he's Welsh.

My fear is we are about to blow £40-50m on an average player who will need upgrading next summer and who doesn’t actually solve our winger issue or striker issue.

A bit like we did with Richarlison although hopefully Johnson can be a bit better than him!

It’s clear that outgoings are holding us back.

I also think the club isn’t in any rush to get Johnson over the line. No one in here was particular gagging for him to join either, with most saying it’d be fine if the deal is right.

But now it’s dragged on for a few weeks everyone is losing their mind.

This is the way it always goes. This summer we lost our best player, our world class striker, and instead of spending big money on a striker, we're splurging half the money for Kane on - for many - a wide forward who's hardly set the PL alight. But because the club has, after a promising start to the window, left so much to the last day, ofc people are desperate for a signing.

I'm hoping he can be what Sadio Mane was supposed to be for us. Sometimes a player's level can improve by playing in a better team.

That's my hope anyway!

I hope we sign Johnson and I hope he does well. But imho it's severely underwhelming to lose Kane for £100m and see us sign a cheap winger (who let's be honest was signed because of the opportunity), the creative midfielder we've needed ever since Eriksen left, and a work-in-progress wide forward we're paying a huge premium for (vs his performance in the PL) because he's Welsh.

Again, I hope they all do well, and Maddison already us. But we're now all pinning our hopes on getting Johnson today, when almost no one would have accepted that earlier in the same window we lost Kane.
Personally I’m completely unfussed if we sign Johnson or not today. I know most disagree and that’s absolutely fine. Yes I do think our front line needs serious reinforcements but Johnson isn’t the required calibre for me. Would I be unhappy we signed him? No I wouldn’t but there would be a part of me thinking we maybe could and should have got better for the reasons you mention. I’ve never really been a fan of depth recruitment when your first 11 isn’t up to scratch. I know the HG issue is an issue but even so I’m not sure Johnson is the answer to that. Anyway, I hope he does well when he comes and I hope he brings some electricity to our attack. I will be supporting him 100% if/when he joins and will look forward to seeing what he can bring to the team.

I hate to say I told you so, but I said it time and time again in the Kane thread that the money we were getting for him wouldn’t buy us much in today’s market.

People expecting a Bale summer type splurge were always going to be bitterly disappointed. It gets us one or two slightly above average players tops.
