£3m is a snip. I'm all for these kind of signings - we should be looking to do 1-2 a year imo. Easy to recoup money should they not work out.

He's played 8 times for Blackburn. Let's give the 'snapper the benefit of time and patience, eh?
Definitely, I just feel it’s exciting when we sign the right kind of young players like this. He has all the attributes to succeed, whether he does or not remains to be seen but it’s the ideal situation we are putting ourselves in to get a quality young CB come through with him and Dorrington on the books. I could echo the same for Dorrington, he has all the attributes

Wonder if it'll be worth loaning him back to Blackburn for the season.
Going by the information earlier in the thread they want people off the books and are not interested in taking anyone in either permanent or loan.

Edit: it is in the opening post, says not even interested in free transfers.

Definitely is this kind of approach that gave us Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Tom Huddlestone and Aaron Lennon in the past

Would be the perfect for him right now to be straight loand back to blackburn with the tough finanical situation they are in, and Have a full season playing as a 18 year old in the Championship.

He wasn’t a regular starter at Blackburn though, only played 400-odd minutes and most of them in August, so I’m not sure why that would change now that they have no more financial interest in his development.

Only if we pay his wages.

If he’s straight off to meet the first team, I doubt we’re sending him on loan anywhere. Could be a diamond in the rough

Probably better than the defenders we have (bar Romero) so would be needed just now anyway (before we sign any more CBs anyway)

Been following this story with interest since he was linked 18 months ago.

Watched a couple of his games last year and from what little I know and have picked up from Blackburn fans...

Widely regarded as England's best U21 CB prospect in the country.

Has been wanted by all the top clubs since he was 14/15.

Turned them all down (and big money) to sign a contract extension, and get early first team minutes (at 16) whilst staying at home with his family who I gather have kept his feet on the ground.

Got some decent game time but more recently has been blocked by safer hands experienced CBs.

At that point made sense to move to a big club, secure his financial future, and also pick his best loan move with more minutes and elite coaching and training in the meantime.

His contract had a release clause which we've activated.

For that reason, viewed as unlikely he'll be loaned back to Blackburn as was an enforced sale.
