He seems fairly happy on the pre-season tour, and from reports, is happy to stay if neither of the Spanish giants come in for him. I'd rather see the club spend any Eriksen money on a DM and defender in any case. Make the squad more complete.

Dybala seems unnecessary given that he plays as a second striker, we don't play 4-4-2 anymore. No one does. The poor bloke is best-suited to a position that basically doesn't exist in modern football, unless you're Stoke or burnley. It's why he's been average over the past couple of years, Juve play the 4-3-3 like every other big club and he isn't as adaptable to that formation. He could play in a 4-2-3-1 behind the striker but then that's where Eriksen and/or lo Celso, Alli, and Lamela all play their best football. Having depth is good but that seems like overkill
Average the past couple of years? Sure, maybe last year as he adjusted to Ronaldo in the team (although he still scored double figures in all comps, but the season before he hit 22 league goals as a second striker.

If pre-season is anythign to go by and Eriksen does leave, then something like this could absolutely work:

Winks
Ndombele - Lo Celso/Dele
Dybala
Kane - Son
He could also fit in either of the positions further forward, Dele, Lamela and Lo Celso could all play in that 'number 10' role, and Lucas could fit in either of the two forward positions. There would be so many options, and with the two creative '8s' behind the font three, there would be less need for an Eriksen-type player to be the sole heartbeat of the team in possession, like he has been for so many years.

This would undoubtably be the biggest Spurs signing in my lifetime if it happened, can't remember us going in for a major superstar like this. The price and the shirt sales alone should have Levy at least considering it.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt it will happen though. It would be too perfect.
Depends how old you are.

Klinsmann was the biggest foreign player we've ever signed.

Already got my 9 year old a Kane shirt coming and swore I wouldn't be paying for the away kit this year, but honestly if we signed Dybala he'd be begging for a Dybala shirt.
It seems with the younger generation that Dybala has achieved more than he actually has, probably because he wears his socks weird.

Agree though that this would be a great signing for Poch to work with and improve.

Plus they play in different positions!

It’s not linked to eriksen at all. More likely what happening is what some itk have alluded to would happen once we were in the new stadium plus it’s levy backing his manager.

Agree that they play in different positions.
Looks like Lo Celso would be the 'replacement' for Eriksen.
Dybala would in effect then be replacing Llorente - as a second striker, which would provide decent rotation and formation options between Kane, Moura and Dybala.
BUT Dybala can also play as an attacking midfielder or creative outlet, which would provide further rotations options with Dele and Son.

Rose would be the leverage to this deal - and Sess would be Danny's replacement.

Holy shit! Did i just make it work??!?...........i think i'm gonna bust a nut! :woot:

If you sign Dybala you play him, he won't be rotation.

I hope he is not the reason we delay Lo Celso and then end up with neither as this deal seems to complex to me.
If Dybala would be available to a fair price I am sure more clubs would be into it.

Normally I wouldn’t entertain this either, but the fact it’s being ‘broken’ by football.london and the evening standard is curious. Perhaps there’s actual truth in this one

Struggling to believe it if im honest

If you sign Dybala you play him, he won't be rotation.

Go tell that to De Bruyne, Sane and even Benardo Silva :)

I'm not saying that Dybala would be a squad player - i'm just saying he gives us more options.
If it's true that Eriksen underperformed last season because he played too many games and was basically knackered - then rotating players is surely a good thing - and if within that rotation you've got equally good players to choose from then you're winning!

Man City have proven that.

Not sure where we are on either at the moment, it feels pretty crazy all round.

I was thinking about this but heres my opinion:

Madrid have no room or interest in him
Barca are too stacked now and cant go in for him
Athletico just signed joao felix for a similar position
Psg have ffp issues although could change with neymar but that will be complicated

So that leaves bayern, city and us really. Juventus realistically need a few people off the squad list but without those big 3/4 teams in for him I cant see them getting a mega price and he didnt have a good season.

I’m just too cynical to believe this. I’m going for a surf this morning where I’ll ruminate on the varying permutations this link suggests, then I may or may not share my wisdom with you banal plebs

Man Utd as well could afford him and offer him Massive wages. They will still be attractive to players.

Checked the site before I went to bed, nothing new.

Woke up this morning and 22 pages of Dybala, WOW. And have now read it all.

Dybala is brilliant, never though we would be linked to Tier1 players.

Clearly it's information leaked by the club with now AllyG/Gards/JJ all confirming our interest. That's just so confusing for me, I can't really figure it out.

Some thoughts:
# Dybala wants to leave Juve, and doesn't seem to fit in with CR7. Hell he probably likes the PL, and why not join up with the best manager in the world, a fellow Argentinian.

# It can't be to pressure Betis for GLC, since that would make no sense, when Dybala is more expensive.

# Juve might need Eriksen in the CM3. Pjanic, Matuidi and Emre Can doesn't cut it. There's zero creativity in the final third. He would actually be perfect for them. IF he wants to go.

# If we're swapping Dybala for Eriksen AND getting GLC in I would take that.

# I wonder if the Eriksen situation might have changed in the past few days, since this has suddenly come up

# Like Herc said we're not getting ND/GLC/Sess/Clarke & Dybala without selling a huge asset

# There's also still Bale which might go down to the wire

# For now I choose to believe it's all a smokescreen, since this information is leaked by the club, and why would they leak that kind of stuff if we really wanted to sign Dybala, maybe it's to "scare" RM and us getting in a better position for Bale somehow (probably not)

Maybe it just to make all Spurs fans feel more excited because it has been quiet in the past few weeks. Who the hell knows.

It's all really confusing :confused::confused:

But whatever happens it's going to be some 2 weeks before the window shuts. COYS!

(IMO) Some great points in here - your last one is also an interesting take as well (the bit about RM and Bale)
