Patience is one of the things, I think we as Spurs fan lack. So does the board it seems.
I think it's partly fuelled by are 'near-misses' (5th, 4th but no CL, 5th by 1pt, lasagne, Carling Cup loss on pens etc) and the feeling of some injustice or last-gasp failure on the pitch.
I'm generally a pessimistic guy - I was certain Southampton would score and even go on to win yesterday in the 5 added minutes. And I've realised it's my own Anti-Spurs-Disappointment Defence Mechanism. For instance if I ever get my hopes up that things are about to click, we lose 6-0. Or 7-1. Or from 3-0 up lose 5-3.
Saying that, the point of this post is that I feel pretty disheartened when I come on here and see a lot of disappointment shown in players like Paulinho, Chadli and Lamela and sometimes Soldado. There sometimes seems to be little balance, players are either "rubbish" or "brilliant" - a little like reviews on the iTunes store where every app is either 5* or 1*. I'm guilty of this too.
We have high expectations as Spurs fans, and rightly so with our fantastic history, players and the Spurs way to play but this needs to be tempered with some reality. We have won three cups in 22 years. We last finished higher than 3rd in the league in 1963 and in the last 10 years 4th has been our best position. In terms of revenue that is around where we are and we do not yet have a stadium to match the teams above us.
Despite this, we can punch above our weight. Players like those above may turn out not to meet expectation, but surely players need a little longer than 3 months to excel? Some do hit the ground running, but if they don't it doesn't make them rubbish.
Moving nation, culture, language, team mates, tactical styles needs to be overcome. Some of these players may never settle at Tottenham, which would be a real shame because they have in flashes shown why we stumped up the cash and I think with time they may perform more consistently.
