Every player we sign (apart from the keeper) will be of a utility nature and can fill different roles.

Seems to be the approach to maintain a sensible squad number and consistency. Good way of doing things.

Just sign him. Nothing to think about considering he is a talent. Not an old player.
I think we will. All the signs are that this one is being quietly done. He was on the bench on Sunday for their pre-season game and practically all other subs came on but he stayed on the bench. All reports point to there being no issue with the finances for the deal and he followed THFC on Instagram (did he not). That's a bit random unless we were speaking to him.

Something about this one makes sense.

Apparently according to the guardian we see him as an alternative to Barkley? I hope not, this guy might have bags of potential but so does Onomah.

Barkley is an experienced premier league player and could settle in right away, this seems like another N'koudou signing, hope I'm wrong.

IMHO that's bollocks. This guy is one for the future who may get a few cup games. He's a long way off starting in the Prem League. See how fast he settles and develops and he'll get minutes. Barkley on the other hand is straight into the first 16. If fit, on the pitch most games whether starting or from the bench. Also Barkley would initially play further forward as a creative outlet...this young lad is more of a deep lying midfielder with very different attributes.

Celta Vigo have accepted a £9 million offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Pape Cheikh Diop with a 'deal now very close'. [Marca] #COYS

Timing with Barkley's injury, coincidence, or are we aiming for both??
Guessed it'd be CB, AM and maybe WF/CF and/or RB.
Will Diop be instead of AM, or instead of WF/CF?
Can't see us getting all 5 positions.

Views I picked up on here are he's able to play both the Wanyama and Dembele type role, so not really a replacement for Barkley or WF/CF.

I think it just shows that we're still committed to improving the academy. Makes sense considering we let go of Lesniak.

It also makes us more calm about Barkley. We can let that run until deadline day and make Everton sweat knowing we already have another midfielder signed.

I'd see no reason for marca to lie about a transfer for a 9m 19 year old, not exactly gonna get them millions of clicks

But yeah seems like this is so we can push the barkley deal as low as we want without risking being left with no one + he seems like a good prospect and is cheap

All round win

From what I understand he is more of a DM. So would be competing with Dier, Wanyama rather than a CM/AM like Onomah
Very early on in the window, some journos said we wanted a young back-up to Wanyama, but then news on that went silent, I guess Diop could be that player?
