Lucas for Bergwijn was logical. The other changes were baffling.

Rodon for Sanchez and Gil for Son were the only other changes needed.

Complete clusterfuck of a line up.

Today was the reason why many of us were incredibly frustrated with the window.

I bet we'd have hurt Palace a lot more had we signed Traore.

If you're going to replace an injured Son with Winks, you're inviting trouble. Nuno has made a rod for his own back now, and likely to be conservative against Chelsea too. That was terrible the whole way through
Problem is he acts as if we are a small team with his selection. You never play that sort of negative team against Palace if you’re Spurs. You do if you’re wolves.

Not a fan of Winks at all, but for the sake of the argument, let’s assume he deserved his place in the line-up on the premise that he’s a good trainer. That doesn’t change my view that a) it’s tactically poor including him in the set-up with Skipp and PEH already there, making it very unbalanced attacking-wise (not that #sayNo seemingly cares about attacking) and b) equally poor not correcting this flawed set-up in game, by introducing Gil and shifting Alli to the front of a midfield three.
lol sarcasm is hard to spot on the forum bro. Winksy is very average and shouldn't be anywhere near the team
He's too lightweight.

I'm not disagreeing with you per se, Tony, but Nuno isn't responsible for the terrible midfield - that falls on the recruitment side. Our central midfield is woefully underpowered.

We know, it's a truism, that games are won or lost in midfield. But we have no options there. There were no senior players we could have played in the middle today apart from PEH, Skippy and Dele. And I'm not offering that as a defence of anyone. It's an indictment in fact - that our recruitment has been abysmal for far too long now.

What's the point of spending money on the next big central midfielder (Sarr) if we don't have enough in the middle right now? The striker issue is a lesser problem. The central midfield is where the biggest problem at Spurs lies and it seemingly wasn't even looked at this summer.

Except it's not that bad. The midfield we fielded today was terrible but Nuno had the option to make it different.

He could have dropped Alli back and fielded Gil which would have given us more movement and trickery in the final third, or he could have taken more of a risk and played NDombele. Perhaps covering for his lack of effort defensively by keeping Hojberg and Skipp behind him as a shield.

Both options should have produced a more balanced and progressive team than we had today. What we had instead was not going to threaten anyone, particularly without Son and Bergwijn.

Not having our regular CB partnership hurt us alot, even more so when Dier had to come off. Nuno had it all wrong this game and should have seen the signs early on but failed to see it at all. Our midfield lacked any form of creativity, Dele looked lost in the front 3 and Winks doesn't fill any role at all in the mid 3 when his 2 partners are Skipp and Hojbjerg. We struggled to get anything going and the more we allowed Palace to have the ball the more it was just a question of when they would score. Ref didn't have a good game at all and all the 50/50 decisions went Palaces way which was noticable as the second half progressed and our players got more and more frustrated with everything going against them. The sending off wasn't controversial at all as both of the yellows was clear. Davies was terrible when coming un but it's not on him at all as it's not his natural position and coming on with a man down expected to keep on defending low was clear it wasn't gonna work. I think it''s an ok game to lose given the ammount of players we had missing and going a man down but it was the manner we lost in that gives worrying signs. Hopefully it's a kick up the butt for Nuno that he has to play more possitive football and not make everything about defending as it was clear even before the game that the back 4 was the weakness that was going to be targeted. I still have faith in the squad and Nuno to get something out of this season and it's a clear wakeup call from the 3 wins 3 clean sheets which was never gonna hold throughout a whole season.

I imagine he would have made an offensive change at 70 mins. Poch used to do this a lot to and Nuno is similar in this regard.

Just the sending off fucked things as he had to make a defensive change.

Bringing on Gil would have meant we lost some control from a defensive perspective.

And do you really trust Ndombele?? A player who hasnt had any minutes of football since about April, wanted to leave and isn't a disciplined player.

Nuno was fucked for this one

Limited options, always under prepared.

I am starting to lose interest until ENIC fuck off.

I just feel he should have made a change at half time - I've never witnessed such a dire performance and whilst I get we were bare bones, I would have accepted the defeat a lot better had he brought on a Gill or Tanguy - at least show we want to win the game - we were playing palace not a city / pool etc the fact no changes were made at 1-0 infuriated me even more it's like he accepted it.

Levy, again and again, leaves us ill prepared to handle these kind of setbacks that we are barely 4 games into the season before reeling from the consequences. You can argue as much as you like that "it's down to Nuno" or "injuries" or whatever problems there have been with covid and the international games. You're right. If those things didn't happen, we would probably be in a better position. But they did happen, and this kind of thing happens every season. There is always one thing or another, and it is the job of our dear chairman to make sure that we are positioned well enough to endure it. For as long as he is running the club and gambling as close to the edge as he does, we will always be perennial underachievers and almost-there-but-just-not-quite-good-enoughs.

Pick that team when Son, Bergwijn, Sanchez Lo Celso and Romero are all available and then substitute Dier on ten minutes for no reason and we'd be going off our trolley at the manager and saying how the hell are we supposed to get a result from that?
Yet when it's forced on us everybody's losing their shit like we should have won it.
Everything that could have gone wrong for this game went wrong even down to the choice of referee, sometimes shit happens

IT's quite unreal that we have started a new season and our midfield is Winks, PEH, SKipp and Alli. If I had told you that when Jose was was sacked in April, that we would be lining up with those in our midfield at the start of the season what would you have said? Some fucking rebuild hey. Absolute trash

Such a distinct lack of quality, I just want the Alli and Winks experiments to end. I hoped Nuno had something about him but he's come in and indulged the same old wasters who we know aren't good enough. Nuno was always never going to work but the blame has to lie with the higher management at Spurs, for overseeing the current state of the squad. Can anyone really blame Kane for wanting out? I actually feel sorry for the guy, imagine lining up in that team today, it was garbage

Ouch. (Why can’t the apple fall up? It would save the pain when you fall back down to whatever it is we were meant to hit).

There’s a wider structural issue too. We don’t look any better than we did last season. The managerial appointment process was farcical, even by our standards, and there is zero evidence we’re breaking out of the defective, low block defensive mould that hampered us last season. We also under recruited this summer; we definitely needed a creative player to at least give us an appropriate, effective platform to launch counterattacks from. This is another mess, another rusty nail in the testicles that’ll work its way inwards until the next managerial appointment
That’s easy…it’s because the personnell are still the same..the same who Poch , Jose and now Nino are finding not good enough. We failed to get rid of the deadwood over the summer and guess what…same outcome. Look back at threaded over the last three seasons Dier, Davies, winks have been the subject of debate for how long..yet here we are once again…a when will the penny finally drop

His Wolves team had Neves & Moutinho as the two in midfield, completely different type of players to Skipp, Winks & Hojbjerg. We had no way of keeping possession, everyone played it safe, and even then they lost the ball as no one had any options other than going backwards

Look how Zaha bullied our defence - but most posters on here turned their noses up at the idea of him.

A Traore/Zaha type player would work wonders in this team.
