Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of activity in the transfer window is no cause for concern and the club will not be rushed into spending for the sake of it, manager Mauricio Pochettino has said.

He's saying what he has to say, doesn't mean he's being truthful.

Doesn’t mean he isn’t either, he wasn’t so diplomatic at the end of last season. If he was pissed off we would know about it.

He shouldn’t be too concerned, we had 12 players at the WC, most of them played in the semi’s.
We are in a superb position that are players are either at the top of their game, or able to improve.

I love u Poch...oh did I type that out loud!!

Agreed, however, one of our targets, Malcom, is going to Barcelona for a mere 36M. Surely that's a figure we can afford, considering we paid 30M for Sissoko.

I'm not sure Malcom has been a target since we got Lucas.

There is no panic, just a slightly depressing realisation of what Brave means in the corridors of the Spurs lodge.

I think too many fans have picked up on this brave statement and ran with it did anyone in their right mind think that levy and co would change their MO just because the club is moving to a new stadium it was never going to happen.

Maybe, but it was certainly a pointed statement from Pochettino about something. Perhaps it was as simple be brave enough to increase my salary.

I personally didn’t think the MO was going to change to the point that star names were going to be flooding through the door. In fact I wouldn’t want that. But I did expect the chairman to act earlier and not repeat the process of making us hamstrung in the first few weeks of the season yet again.

The World Cup has obviously harmed us for sure but that tour of the states is now basically a talent search within our own ranks and any business done from here on in is weeks behind integration for the start of the season.

It’s a shame.

I say it every summer, just cannot believe that we’re in this situation again. We need to improve this squad, not go backwards. Pure frustration for MP and the fans, yet again. Slow hand clap for Levy...

Well I see no problem if we keep all players with the exception of Llorente.
Then add that needed competition for Harry.
That would mean a 50 mill investment-and a brave approach.:(

Exactly and also the World Cup kinda messed things up anyway in regards to transfers.

Many top teams have completed some very good business, even with the World Cup.

Many top teams aren't in the same financial position as us nor are they building a stadium.

It was always going to be difficult this summer regardless of what's been said.

We have improved the squad every year up to this year. Have you not noticed what's happened over the last five years? We were a team with a small chance of making CL football who generally didn't make it, now we're regulars. We had a few stars like Bale or Modric backed up with a lot of B-list players, now we've got outstanding players all over the pitch. Even a couple of years ago we had a great first XI but lacked quality in depth, now we don't.

And none of this was done by splashing out on star names. But if anyone spends more than us people start freaking out.

There are a lot of sensible posts and I agree to an extent we are working with different confines and have to be realistic. I’m just concerned that Pochettino is going to get tetchy and frustrated if we make the same decisions and mistakes.

What he said at the beginning of may was pretty strong.

“You need to be brave,” “In this type of situation being brave is important and you need to take risks. It is the moment in which the club needs to take risks”.
“After four years, we need to assess that period and try to be contenders and win big, big trophies”.
“Our fans need to know what we are doing and our fans need to feel the reality of club”
“We need to try and find a way. We cannot think we are the cleverest people in the world winning trophies spending small money.”

Thoughts?

To me it pointed to the usual business activity as i could not envisage a sea change although I get the frustration as we all want the club to compete at the top as they have been.
All we can do is sit back and wait to see what happens during the next two weeks if we don't get anyone in which is unlikely then sure a little vent off maybe in order but let's wait.

My question is - what area of our squad needs strengthening?

GK? - No
Def? - No, unless there are departures (which I can’t see happening)
Mid? - Yes - a squad player capable of covering for Eriksen (not many available)
Striker? - Yes, with Janssen gone and Llorente another year older this is a big focus.

Now, other than Grealish - we haven’t really been linked with anyone this window... However I take solace in the fact that both positions we are looking for are arguably the two most challenging roles to fill - esp the Striker role as I’m sure most players will be looking at playing second fiddle to Kane and not fancy it. I think Shaquiri would have been a good addition - particularly at that price but to sign someone and piss off the squad may not have been to Pochettino’s liking!

Big things from Moura and Lamela this season - particularly from the start where it is likely they will feature heavily!
