Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't paqueta very patchy? Supposedly he was quite hit and miss last season and basically downed tools when Guimares left. That might be completely wrong but I remeber hearing that on a podcast somewhere.
He wasn't a standout in either match against West Ham, or at least I didn't notice a player I thought was special.

Anyone know where this story that we have to sell before we can buy has come from ?

I don't think that's strictly the case - more the fact that we now have a bloated squad and several non-HG players we can't register so 'attentions have turned to clearing the decks' according to Dan KP (Standard) and I think similar mentioned by D1 but may be wrong on that. Makes sense to start addressing it now the majority of our business has been done.

I presume it will also give us a better idea of the shape of the squad, wage bill etc before possibly making the most of other clubs precarious financial positions later in the window.

Squad needs about 4 players moved on now, Rodon, Lo Celso, Tanguy and one other

Thats how it should read
The words being used are seen to fund...If I am not mistaken we have bought roughly £100m and sold £35m roughly. Simple maths £150 - £100 + 35m doesn't = nothing !! Actually says we have £85m to spend assuming that all transfers are paid at once which they won't be

Not long ago when we were first linked, maybe a season or two back. Everyone was literally creaming at the thought of signing him. Sure he’s had injuries but he has so much talent and adds to our powerful ball carrying Amo. By the same logic some apply,I assume we wouldn’t buy/offer a new contract to Kane, who also has his share of injury problems that usually pop up during a season? ?‍♀️
Yes but acl injuries can completely derail a players career. Look at Torres, after his he lost a yard of pace and that burst of acceleration that was key to his game. There are a lot comments on zaniolo and how he hasn’t been the same since

They certainly can but ACL surgeries/recoveries have come a long way since even Torres's injury. You're expected to make a full recovery now, mentally and physically, within 12-18 months. Most of the talk now is that it's a mental hurdle more than a physical one. You could argue that Zaniolo returning to form around the end of last season was due to him finally getting back to 100% (18 months after his ACL) and anything prior to that should be taken as him getting back to speed.

Technically Paqueta is currently 24 and Zaniolo is 23 but yes your right his birthday is in August.

I see so many people referring to his time at Milan, his first in Europe, as reason to question his ability without actually taking into consideration how He was massively mismanaged. Not aimed at you, but this is the problem when people look at stats, YouTube vids etc without actually following a club and the tactical nuances of game by game. For me his skill set is well matched to the PL and I could see him doing very well here in Conte’s system and a better fit for us then Zaniolo.

It is true that getting rid of Ndombele as part of the Zaniolo deal would be extremely enticing, I just can’t see it being anything more then a loan and I can complete see him being back next summer. But I guess something is better then nothing. If we could do a perm that would be incredible tho.

I like the look of Paqueta too, and he’s certainly more proven than Zaniolo at this moment in time. My point was more in line with what you noted about adaption and systems. I’ll cut anyone slack under Mourinho.
They’d both be gambles to my mind. I like them both, and I don’t see the injuries as as bigger hurdle as some on here. He’s a strong player.

I’d just like to say that if I ever get shelved by the wife, I’m 100% going to be on this message board so I can hookup with all the Physio, Accountant and Body Language Specialists.

I don’t know how you all have time for all three careers as well as your actual jobs.

The single ones amongst you must be literally drowning in [vag][peen][both].
Good point, well made. Also a fair chance they are all slightly unhinged schizophrenics with a weird fascination for terrible puns, whilst also being a stickler in the search for perfect grammar and punctuation!

You have to take the rough with smooth!

Rather than everyone going on about his injury record, I'm surprised no one is talking about his discipline.

In serie A last season.... 23 appearances he has 10 yellows and 2 reds. Wtf is that? Add to the comments from every manager saying he was a bit of a dick... I don't see it at all

In those 23 games and 5 off the bench (when he was not attacking other players) he managed a grand total of 2 goals and 2 assists.

So just to have a rundown here...

2 ACL
Bad attitude (confirmed by managers)
Bad discipline on field and off field (according to reports)
High transfer price (reported)
Never played outside of Italy
No (little) end product
Greedy

Sounds bonkers to me. And someone suggested maddison might be a bad idea because of some tweets?

Every one of our signings have made sense so far, this one makes no sense whatsoever.

He's probably a lovely guy outside of football

17 goals/assists in 42 games last year, no end product seems very harsh?

This transfer honestly has a feeling a washing money, because I don’t see a world where we sign zaniolo without selling Ndombele to em. If that’s the case be ready for some eye watering numbers that end up leveling out

Fuck the YT clips of what he is doing at Roma. We are all fully aware of how Jose sets up and plays, wouldn't expect to see anything other than his teams counter attacking.

Everything needs to be assessed within the correct context! That's why I'll never take the opinions of those watching YT clips and quoting transfermarkt stats as anything other than not really knowing much about the player at all.
You are far too sensible. ?
