Angelos Postecoglou is a Greek name, but Oglou part seemingly comes from Turkic/Ottoman/Asia Minor origin of Oğlu which means “son of’. The first part of his surname could also derive from Postacı which mean Postman. So his name origins could actually be ‘Postman’s Son’ which would make sense in relation to the ITK…

Anyone else really underwhelmed by this?

Nagelsmann or Slot I could have really got behind.

This is totally meh. I worry he'll (with our fans) he'll get very little latitude if performances take time to build, which they inevitably will

Great share and this is exactly what I mean when I said yesterday that people comparing him to Gerrard is lazy and an uneducated opinion.

maybe it is. But what's inescapable is that only two teams win the league there. He's performances in Europe are rubbish and that's the real marker for me. Maybe it works and I'll be very happy to be proved wrong but there isn't evidence to show that it will work here.

I’m theorising that the Munn Ange axis might be getting Levy a little excited about signing one or two well-priced Japanese players in particular.

Anyone who watches SPL regularly reckon any of their players including their Japanese forwards could hack it down south?

"Why are we so bad at recruitment, why can't we be more like Brighton? They've got a great manager"

"Ok - let's hire the man that Brighton wanted as first choice to replace Potter but couldn't get him mid-season"

"Wait - not like that"

Regardless of who is appointed as manager, the incorrect recruitment of players, is what will let them & us down, so long as Levy doesn’t change/go.

Ahhh yes, I remember this movie. This is just before a bald midget runs them both over. Depicts the car crash of a club we are at the moment

Lets be fair here his results in Europe are poor because relatively so is his squad.

Haven't posted in awhile but just thinking to chip in after trawling through the posts in this thread and then going to a Celtic forum to check out the early posts from Celtic fans on Ange before he joined.

What stood out for me is how similar the initial feelings Celtic fans had about the state of affairs at the Club and Ange at that point; the club is a mess with clueless board who messed up with recent transfers and a general low opinion of Ange given the broad lack of knowledge of him as a coach along with the general disdain of his coaching ability due to the leagues of the club he has managed.

What gives me optimism is that he completely exceeded their expectations, went on to build an exciting team with left field transfers, and gave their fans their love of the club back.

Honestly, supporting the club has grown tiresome for me in recent seasons and I truly think that a return to basics is critical for all of us, from fans to players to the board. I'm seeing an Ange appointment as opportunity to allow us to do that and we should really give him a chance if he comes. COYS.

Marco Silva joins Ange Postecoglou and Luis Enrique on Tottenham manager shortlist

Postecoglou has plenty of admirers after his efforts at Celtic while Silva was one of the managers of the year with Fulham this season

Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be considering three candidates for their long-vacant manager’s job: Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, Fulham’s Marco Silva and the former Spain coach Luis Enrique.

The expectation is that all three will be fully considered by Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman who is leading the process, and that the appointment will come before the club bring in a successor to Fabio Paratici as sporting director. Levy also has the support in the appointment process of the club’s chief football officer, Scott Munn, who will be joining Spurs from City Football Group.

Postecoglou has been a success at Celtic since finally getting a major break in European football with Celtic two years ago. His team will complete a treble of domestic trophies if they beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday, and no talks will take place until after that game. The 57-year-old was appointed by Celtic during Covid while manager of Yokohama F Marinos in the Japanese J-League and had long wondered whether his chance at a big club in Europe would ever come.

The Australian came to Celtic without any coaches or assistants who had worked with him previously and he then wrestled back the title from Rangers in his first season, as well as winning the League Cup. He is also attracting interest from other English clubs including Leicester City, relegated to the Championship at the weekend. Crystal Palace are admirers but are unlikely to make that appointment this summer.

Silva has one year left on his deal at Fulham and is in discussions to extend that contract after an impressive 10th place finish this season. It is unclear whether Fulham would be prepared to deal with Spurs should the Portuguese coach wish to leave. The compensation clause for the final year of his Fulham deal is understood to be worth around £6million.

Luis Enrique was under consideration for the Chelsea job in the early stages, until Mauricio Pochettino became the obvious frontrunner. The former Spain, Barcelona and Roma coach has been interested in managing in the Premier League. He is also a contender for the job at new Serie A champions Napoli, with Luciano Spalletti to leave this summer.

Welcome to the madhouse @bridgman .
Always good to have new and vocal members so take your time to explore this site, this thread isn't the ideal place to judge the rest of the forum by!

I have maintained that the manager is the least of our worries. We could bring in Pep and he would struggle with the current make-up of the squad.

So, I can be on board the Postecoglou train, so long as we make the necessary changes to the team. If we don't it will all end quickly in tears - as is frequently the case here lately.

Nothing ever changes, as long as Enic, Levy, lewis are still at this club it doesn't really matter who manages us, seen it all before.

So we are choosing a manager before a DoF. I fear/suspect the so called DoF will be a watered down role. Well let see what happens

If you've seen it all then presumably you've seen the bits where we were actually good?
