Why isn't Brendan Rogers on the list?
Because he’s a narcissistic bellend with declining returns?

If you want a more serious answer, he’s a poor defensive coach even when everything else if going well. Even his best Liverpool side conceded 50 league goals the year they finished second (with the benefit of no European football I might add)

Given the recent news about Emerson, if I'm a prospective manager I am absolutely not taking this job and starting right away. I'd sign the contract to start in the summer.

I'm trying to be calm, pragmatic and positive but man could I do with a quick, assertive and ambitious appointment.

Not a Paratici special but either an upcoming , progressive, young coach in the mould of a Naglesmann or De Zerbi or the return of Poch.

Just get it all signed and sealed ready for the summer so we don't have to go through a circus again.

Approach Nagelsmann and get something concrete. If he doesn’t want to, move on. The very first priority for the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur should be that they want to be manager of Tottenham Hotspur: not someone settling, not someone who thinks they could do better.

I mean trying to keep a neutral approach, I completely understand JN or others waiting to assess options in the Summer. I think I would do the same.

But it's the responsibility of our club to pitch him and make a compelling pitch to try and have that not be the case. If he hears how much we want him as the number one man for the position and the vision of the next few seasons, there's always a chance he is pleased with what he hears and signs.

My worry is that the club also wants to wait to start things after the season to try and not disrupt the squad on the chase for fourth but also to interview multiple candidates, and that's how we got into a mess a few Summers ago IMO.

The lack of a shortlist in general is crazy. Even in my young-ish business management career one of the biggest/best things I was taught early on was "always have a bench" so you're not left scrambling if someone leaves out of nowhere. That's not even considering a situation like this where it's obvious the person is leaving sometimes within the next 3-15 months. Conte:

- could explode any second
- has never been a long term fit for any club
- has not agreed to his mutual extension so his contract runs out IN 3 MONTHS
- even with the extension signed is only here for another 15 months max

To not have a shortlist with those things going on is criminal.
Do you really believe we haven't? Or are unable draw one up pretty darn quick? Blimey, there's even one at the start of the thread...

Let’s not gloss over the fact that Nagelsmann is not just some kick your feet up hire. He’s a control freak who will want a massive upgrade in technical ability for his squad. He also will butt heads with Levy and probably want a new DoF. It isn’t just hiring Nagelsmann, there’s a shit ton of work needed at the management level to actually give him a path to success.

that’s why I’m apprehensive on JN.

Be honest with yourself, do you trust Levy?

that’s what I thought. Me neither.
A manager with a comprehensive top-to-bottom, forward thinking vision for the club is exactly what we need to be honest. Plus he isn't a manager who demands the best players to succeed, so he's far more suited to us than the last 2 big-name managers we've had.

To me he's exactly what we need right now - a combination of the positive vision and management style of Poch, with the charisma and status in the game of Conte needed to hold Levy to account.

SC is apparently more competent than DL if you believe what @Trix has said.

Sure you can draw up a list quickly, but that doesn't get your background work done. Ideally you want to have already done background on these guys so you can move when needed.

I have no problem with the decision. to rotate. I have a lot of problems with his decision making (or lack of it) during the game. For Romero to sit on the bench when we had a used substitution was criminal. A proactive manager sees we are losing momentum and brings on Romero, Harry and Kulu when he brought on Harry and we win the game and they only played 30 mins each.

Conte’s in game management was my biggest issue with him, but it’s also symptomatic of his wider character - the stubbornness wins out every time
Yeah could just imagine the reaction if Conte had brought a CB on.

To my mind the issue is not so much the legalities of the situation, it's why the hell would Nagelsmann (or anyone) sign now not knowing what opportunities there will be at the end of the season.

Just in the Premier League, the Chelsea job could easily be available, is it beyond the realms of possibility that after this season the Liverpool job becomes vacant? Or City? That's without the other big clubs in Europe and the merry go round effect as managers move between clubs.

Fact is, for me, we are a safety club for managers like Nagelsmann. We are where managers like him go when they don't get the bigger jobs.

Its the perenial catch 22 for us, do we wait and hope they get no better offer? Or, do we go for a lower down target who would jump at the chance now? There are plenty of managers we could get in by the weekend, but they would not be the best available - so, what do you do?

Maybe they'd like the look of the EPL, like the look of our squad, recognise that the other top teams in the EPL are quite stable manager-wise, and not fancy the idea of signing up with a nut job like Boehly. I get the feeling Nagelsmann would quite like a project.

The depressing part is that even if he nabs JN, as he seems to be the favorite of the masses, it will simply be rinse and repeat. Let me know when someone wakes Papa Joe up from his nap to finally hold Danny accountable on football matters!

As always, a BIG thank you to all ITK folks.

As did I, but you have to admit many others said it was a game to rotate.
Think almost everyone who was keen on rotation said we should still play our first choice back-line and Kane. Was a very small minority that wanted the level of rotation we got from Conte.
