Tottenham Hotspur are set to seek talks with Julian Nagelsmann, who Telegraph Sport can reveal developed an affinity for the North London club.
Nagelsmann is even said to have owned a Spurs replica shirt, although it is not known how or why he came to support the club from his home country of Germany.
One theory is that Nagelsmann was a big admirer of Tottenham under former head coach Mauricio Pochettino and kept an eye on the team’s performances and results under the Argentine.

Bayern Munich have decided to replace Nagelsmann with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who had been on Tottenham’s list of potential replacements for Antonio Conte.
But the availability of Nagelsmann presents Tottenham with an opportunity over the 35-year-old the club first showed an interest in two years ago.
Nagelsmann was Tottenham’s first choice to replace Jose Mourinho in 2021, but a move never got off the ground as Bayern appointed him.
A new move for Nagelsmann would be popular with a large section of Spurs supporters and could spare chairman Daniel Levy from further criticism.
Nagelsmann had been on a skiing holiday when news of Bayern’s plans to sack him emerged and it is not clear whether or not he will now want a break before speaking to clubs or considering offers.
Conte was again absent from Tottenham training on Friday amid confusion over whether or not he will be required to return to England at all.
Spurs are expected to agree Conte’s exit after his criticism of the squad, but players and staff have been left in the dark over Levy’s plans despite him making at least two visits to the training ground this week.
It remains to be seen whether or not the sudden availability of Nagelsmann speeds up the process or even slows it down if Levy is forced to change course.
Ryan Mason and Cristian Stellini have been taking training in Conte’s absence during international week, but Levy will have to provide some clarity soon on who will be in charge of preparing the players for next weekend’s trip to Everton.
Tottenham’s international players will start to return from duty with their respective countries on Monday, when Conte would normally be back at the training ground.

The importance of this decision and where it lands us with Harry Kane cannot be underestimated, and we simply can't afford to get this wrong if we want to keep him.

I politely completely disagree.

I think it's time the club started acting without Kane in mind. Regardless of which manager Kane would be happy with, it has to be someone who is right for the club.

That means a few things:

- More attacking football
- Willing to work within a budget and with a DoF/Scouting team
- Actually use the squad and the youth players when possible
- Build a more positive culture
- Figure out a way to play which doesn't only involve giving the ball to Kane

We need to do all those things without even considering Kane. If he stays, brilliant, but we need to get back to other players contributing as well - he has totally carried us this season. If the new man comes in and he decides he wants to go, then we should let him, cash in, and give the new manager the chance to build a much more fluid, aggressive and overall more dangerous team in his place.

I love Harry but the club cannot be beholden to the decisions and opinions of one player. It's incredibly unhealthy. He's also almost 30 and not like he's going to play for us for the next decade.

Its not about who he wants, its about who he'll stay for. He's our best player, and we can't let him walk away in a years time on a free to go to Man Utd etc. Therefore the importance of getting this sorted quickly and knowing where we stand with him so we can potentially sell him in the summer is high. Any potential manager will want to know if he's sticking or twisting too as it may well influence their decision.

I think he will decide whether to stay, largely independent of who we appoint.

He's not an idiot. He's seen two so-called "elite" managers fail in the last four years. So he must know the chances of another one failing here are high. But, on the other hand, he might not have the appetite for being part of a project which could conceivably take him to the end of his career.

Nagelsmann is very exciting. But I am less keen on spending lots of time and energy trying to woo him if he's happy to sit back and see what else becomes available in the summer. No problem if he decides now to take over from the summer, but we can't afford to spend the summer faffing about like we did a couple of years ago.
Exactly!

If he wants to wait around unsigned until the summer that smacks of ‘you’ll do if nothing better comes along’!

Agreed, imo we should be doing everything we can to keep him, wouldn't that be showing the "ambition" we're all crying out for? Rather than letting our best player (ever!) leave, especially to a rival.

According to Kicker information, Julian Nagelsmann was informed of his dismissal on Säbener Straße this afternoon. Thomas Tuchel has not signed yet. This is expected to happen on Saturday.

The good thing is I can't see this dragging on - we either get positive feedback straight away from Nagelsmann's camp that this is a goer or not and we move on to other targets.

It shouldn’t take too long to determine whether he wants the job or not. Once he’s confirmed as sacked by Bayern, it’ll most likely be yes (but in the summer) or no.

I think it may be too soon for him to jump into our mess and if he wishes to make a decision in the summer, then it’s clear he will be holding out for a better option. If this is the case, we should just give up on him and look elsewhere.

Poch is #1 for me if we can’t get JN. Anyone else will have their pros and cons for us to debate for and against however I just hope the club have done their homework.

It's hilarious how many managers/players were apparently Tottenham fans/had Tottenham shirts/watched Tottenham as a kid etc. As if even if it was true, it would be at all relevant.

Like Tuchel would turn down Bayern because, apparently, he was a Tottenham fan.

Or Nagelsmann would be more likely to join us because he once owned a Tottenham shirt.

I remember these kinds of stories going all the way back to Bergkamp, who was another Tottenham fan, apparently!

It's an interesting point you raise, I think we have learnt that coach's system vs tactical ability are two different sets of skills.

Agree. In my opinion a manager (in any walk of life) should be able to identify problems and find ways of fixing things that aren't working. It's the very baseline of the job, and Conte has shown virtually no ability, or more likely willingness, to do either.
