Yeah I know. But from what I can tell it’s just a load of Aussie’s who keep mentioning him. He’s nowhere near the level we should be looking at.
Said it earlier in the thread, but Postecogluo is a superb manager. Has taken a Celtic team that were incredibly average under Lennon and completely turned them around playing excellent football, improving existing players and signing unheralded players from Japan to build a fantastic team.

He’s widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, manager in the history of the Australian national team and every club team he managed in Oz and Japan he took from middle of the road to title winners within 2 seasons playing brilliant football along the way.

He’s very highly thought of in coaching circles and Man City apparently see him as a potential Pep replacement. He would tick all the boxes of a project manager who’d get us playing the right way and improve our players.

p.s. I’m Scottish and no Celtic fan, so no bias haha

People get excited about the latest name being bandied about but Levy isn't just going to appoint someone like that. There's way more that goes into it than just 'let's get him in, he plays exciting stuff!'

yeah, appears to have been “ex-Chelsea, boring football” or “Nuno” last few years

A number of other posters have put it more succinctly than me; he's an experienced manager, who plays great football, and has won a load of stuff wherever he's been. It's no secret Man City have kept their eyes on him but, apparently, he's not good enough for a team that's won naff all in 15 years since a League Cup.

This arrogance when it comes to managers is what led to Jose and now, unfortunately, Conte.

(I'm not saying he should be manager; Enrique or De Zerbi are the clear choices for me)
To use an Australianism, Yeah nah.

As if City are going to replace Pep with this guy. 😂

He coached Yokahama Marinos, which is the City group team in Japan. They know him well and city executives are on record talking about how good they think he is.

You may not believe good managers might work outside the big five leagues, but plenty of very intelligent people working in football do. And they see big Ange as one of the very best.

Man City won’t go out and sign someone like Zidane, or Conte. It'll be much more likely to be Kompany (might have even been Arteta). Wait til you hear where he's managed...

I’m really interested to know this but don’t know how to create a poll

would people rather a negative/boring/defensive playing style manager that gets backed and wins a trophy or an attacking/positive/exciting playing style manager that gets backed but doesn’t win a trophy?

If anyone knows how to do a poll please create one I’m really interested to see the results!

We can have both. Other clubs are allowed to have attacking coaches that win trophies. Why can’t we?

We will all be here again in another 12-18 months, unless
a major rebuild happens. But I’ll add my two pennies worth.

My first choice would be Gallardo, followed and wanted him as our manager for few years now. He knows how to switch formations to best suite the team and who they’re up against. He is also great with rebuilding consistent changing squads and using youth, with all his top players always being sold.

However, that said… I think it should be Poch. A lot of fans are at a point where they want him back and some will not give any new manager a chance regardless who we appoint. To the point where any first signs of trouble or not liking what they see, the voices will just return or get louder for Pochs return.
Get him back, he is probably the only manager to appoint that will unite majority of the fans back together again from negativity of the last Few years. It is inevitable he comes back for a second stint as some stage, so may aswell now get the monkey off our backs sooner, so we can eventually move forward from Poch with hopefully success along the way or not.

But, really hope we look further from the end of our noses and go for someone like Gallardo.

It doesn’t work like that though does it. I don’t think defence oriented systems work these days, not for clubs with serous ambition anyway. Football has moved on.

But if it did that’s the question. I just don’t know how to make a poll

If you had to choose what would it be?

It’s just a simple question. I’m not saying there’s not coaches out there that can do both it’s purely a question

It's an interesting one; seems obvious to just say 'yeah, the trophy one' – but... does that mean we don't bother following Spurs all season? If they're boring, turgid during league games, and it's a chore to watch, we'd just log in at the end of the season to see us lift the, what, League Cup? I'd love it, but have I only just tuned in for Spurs for that one moment

I’d still rather he showed what he’s got at someone like Southampton, Brighton or Leeds first. It’s too big a risk on someone who’s only ever done it in the minor leagues.

He may well be though highly of, but it’s a massive step up from managing in the Japanese or Scottish league to managing in the English premier league.

It’s an odd premise, because we’ve had some of the most successful defensive coaches in modern times and they’ve failed to win anything for us. We can also debate what ‘backing’ really means (I’ve come to hate the phrase as it’s now seemingly shorthand for ‘buy a manager world class players in every single position’).

Ultimately I want us to win, and if we’re winning trophies then that probably means we aren’t playing particularly awful football. So against the specific parameters you’ve outlined - I’d rather win under a defensive coach than lose under an attacking one. But I don’t for a moment think we’ve got a better chance of actually winning under a defensive coach, so it’s a bit of a moot point.

It doesn’t though so it’s a meaningless question. It’s like asking if Santa was real would I let him use his magic to make us win the Champions League even though everyone would know we’d only won cause of Santa using pixie dust.

Santa doesn’t exist and we have seen over the last three years that defensive football doesn’t automatically win trophies.
