I really don’t see the clamour for Luis Enrique nor do I see it being the right appointment for us.
He’s not managed much club football in years and just screams out ‘big name’ again.

We need a young, hungry, progressive and ‘project’ coach.

Same here. Hearing Tuchel then him just feels like the board haven’t a clue.

Don't see why they have to be young to be a project coach. Enrique is younger than Ten Hag who would now be considered the sort of coach we should try and get. Its their tactical model/ideas that matters.

Not familiar enough to have an opinion if Enrique is a good fit for us, but just waiting for the "Enrique not interested in spurs job" headlines to pop up in a few hours so we can move to the next one...

I really like him. I dont know too much about the football he plays but I like the cut of his job, I like how he talks and doesnt take shit.
I’m a massive fan of Ange and it’s not just being an Australian bias. Every team he has managed he has played a high pressing possession based football. The only concern I have is that premier league is just a total different beast.

"Managing director of football Fabio Paratici has been heavily involved in the process of pinpointing options"

"Tottenham have engaged in due diligence on sporting directors so they are potentially priming for more than a managerial change"

What happens if the new sporting director doesn't like/get on with the manager the old sporting director helped select?
The idea of our board doing due diligence when it comes to football matters is beyond laughable

What do you make of Luis Enrique? Also to you @Ghost Hardware
(sorry for the rough response bellow, im in a coffee shop trying to make a sensible clear answer on my phone whilst i wait for my order)

For a start I would say don't judge him on his job for Spain. Some managers just aren't cut out for international management and although he was altogether a flop I don't think his tactics where ever really going to work consistently in a national team set up.

As for my thoughts on him for us, they are mixed. I think for a start our lack of technical players would be a really really big problem for him. With any sort of tiki taka style football which relies very heavily on players moving the ball around at speed, with often one touch passing, you need your players to have excellent passing, control and spacial awareness. Now whilst this will be an issue for pretty much any of the managers we will likely be looking at, i think with Enrique our deficit in this regard will be even more apparent. This will cause many issues right out of the gate but in my opinion this is a big issue with our squad anyway so I wouldn't actually be that adverse to making this a priority in regards to transfers moving forward regardless who our manager is. Also i think with that in mind Bissuma and Porro will do really well in his system. But on the flip side I could see Richy really struggle.

Beyond that, is he a good manager. Yes and no. Previous to Barca he had a rather unspectacular stint at Roma but then went to Celta and looked altogether more promising. It was his time there that made Barca go for him and it was the perfect pair tbh. He was incredibly successful with them. Now in terms of his tactics, as has been mentioned, its very much possession based, they averaged something like 60% possession across his three seasons in charge and he is actually quite versatile. Even tho he primarily played 433 in his last season he did actually swap to 3 at the back. In the specifics he actully put a lot of focus on the wings/wing backs because at that time Barca were going through a transition in CM with Xavi and Inesta ageing/leaving. I guess the big question mark over him is, was it his tactics that made him so successful at Barca or was it having MSN up top. That was pretty much the best front three in the world at that point. Now although the way he set up certainly helped to utilise them ultimately there were a number of times were I think they wouldn't have scored if it wasn't for them. But I also think saying that his success was just down to that front three would be wildly unfair. So essentially its a bit of both.

IMO he is a good manager but he is very much a disciple of that type of Barca football and I wouldn't call him an elite manager despite his time at Barca. I think if he came the squad would need a major overhaul as many of our players just do not have the ability to play in his system. But we need one anyway. I think some would find it boring as there is a lot of passing and probing and I would be concerned about our current attacking options not being good enough to put teams to the sword. But he did also like a fast counter attack and he wasn't all about slow possession so I don't think it would necessarily be incredibly dull. I could certainly see us running into a similar situation we are having with Conte in that if he doesn't get players who are technical enough to play in his system then it will fall apart very very quickly.

Altogether, i wouldn't be adverse to him and, having grown up watching Barca, part of me would love to see tika taka lite being played here. But Ultimately there are others I much prefer and I think there could be some really big growing pains with him.

I've some to understand that SC couldn't pick it's nose much less a manager. And there's also a distinct lack of bogies in Levy's office.

So, using the bogie method, it's clear..................We're fucked.

How many of us really knew alot about Poch bar his short stint at mid table soton?
Yet he got us playing football we loved bar the final few months.

Meanwhile the elite coaches Mourinho and Conte didn't come close.

Lets hope we get the right man, not the most well known.

I like the way Brighton play....he should imo be looked at.

My No. 1 choice is Ange.

I have followed him since his Brisbane Roar days and he is one of the closest things to a miracle worker there is going around at the moment, at least into the almost instantaneous way he transforms his teams into playing attractive football.
Real effervescent personality. Like him.

The way Brighton play is not only because of De Zerbi... it's because they have a plan. They can sell players. Change managers... and it just fits... of course De Zerbi has surprised everyone. But so did Potter... I do agree that we should be looking at managers in that mould.... like we did with Poch... but it all doesn't matter if we don't have a plan. How we recruit, how we use our talents, how we want to play every year and so on... we should get that part right before we talk about winning stuff.

We’d need a lot of signings to play the type of football Enrique would want but he’d definitely be someone who’d have us playing much much more enjoyable football. Thing is I think any attacking manager coming in will need a lot of signings. It really doesn’t matter though, we’re set up to fail right now and whoever it is will likely fall apart within 18 months. No one, including Poch, is a literal magician and it costs a lot of money these days to buy top quality footballers without a fantastic scouting department (which we really don’t have). There’s so much work needed within this squad it’s going to take an eternity to create a team close to what we had 5/6 years ago in the current market.

It has to be a project manager surely, I mean we have done the tried and tested and look at the results.

Fresh slate with a hungry younger manager with fresh ideas.
