At the point they went to Germany I think it was all Nagelsmann talk, and then the Alonso curve ball, only a few on here mentioned it might be DOF related.

Sounds like according to Kilpatrick they haven't met face to face with Steiden so no idea what Levy was doing there other than meeting Nagelsmann!

Isn't Pinto another one of Mendes's bitches???
Not sure, just had a quick look and there’s only 1 client of mendes at roma and that’s patricio the GK.
whilst he may have links with mendes (probably because he’s Portuguese) it doesn’t look like he’s just buying his mates.

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto over their director of football vacancy, i understands.

Pinto, the former director of professional football at Benfica, is understood to be in Tottenham’s thinking as they look for someone capable of putting into place a long-term and sustainable vision that will deliver success and trophies.

Rudderless Spurs need to bring in a new manager and sporting director after the departures of Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici, who resigned last month after he was banned for 30 months for his part in the Juventus financial scandal.

A source aware of the discussions told i Pinto was “one of the names” in the frame for the role, with West Ham and previously Liverpool having looked at the Portuguese.

Brentford’s Lee Dykes, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krösche and Marseille’s Javier Ribalta have also been linked with the vacancy.

With just a fortnight until the summer transfer window opens, Tottenham need to move quickly if they are to be competitive at the top of the Premier League next season. A restructure of their football operation is under way but they are still whittling down their managerial options.

Having ruled out a move for former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann on Friday, it appears the shortlist is narrowing.

Interim boss Ryan Mason has put his hat in the ring but a patchy record since succeeding Cristian Stellini, who was fired after an embarrassing 6-1 defeat at Newcastle, appears to have scuppered his chances.

Having seen the Conte appointment flounder, the club are understood to be looking for a manager who can put into place a long-term vision and bring back attacking football.

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, Feyenoord’s Arne Slot and Brighton’s highly rated Roberto De Zerbi are all prominent in their thinking.

The club are expected to fill the vacancy left by Paratici first though, with football insiders expecting substantial movement in the sporting director market in the coming months.

Who is Tiago Pinto?

Pinto is certainly a man in demand in the Premier League.

i understands that he was a leading contender to succeed Julian Ward at Liverpool and met senior club officials before they opted for ex-Wolfsburg director of football Jörg Schmadtke, whose appointment is due to be confirmed soon.

Pinto has also attracted interest from West Ham and Aston Villa, who subsequently moved to add Barcelona’s Mateu Alemany to their executive team.

Pinto has caught the eye at Roma partly by creating a climate dedicated to development, innovation and improvement.

One of his innovations has been to change the layout of the training pitches, introducing a big screen alongside one side of the pitch so that manager Jose Mourinho can carry out snap analysis and coaching during sessions.

Even with the demanding Mourinho in charge at Roma, Pinto has maintained good relationships within the club and his recruitment record is excellent.

Hailed as a “world-class talent” by Roma owner Dan Friedkin, Pinto has helped the club blend experience with youth – in a blueprint Spurs would like to follow.

As well as identifying and persuading Mourinho to move to Rome, Pinto was the driving force behind recruiting Juventus’s Paulo Dybala as well as Nemanja Matic, who was signed from Manchhttps://inews.co.uk/sport/football/tiago-pinto-tottenham-roma-sporting-director-2341681ester United.

He also led negotiations to renew Chris Smalling’s stay at Roma in the face of interest from the Premier League.

Pinto has a year left on his contract in Italy and is said to be focused on completing the season at Roma, where the team is in the last four of the Europa League and chasing a Champions League place.

But he has previously spoken about his ambition to work in England and could realise that goal in the close season.

Then we are screwed, would prefer days or even weeks in order to start sorting this mess out.

For our new DoF, look no further than AZ Alkmaar's Max Huiberts. He's performing absolute miracles there.
Their youth team won the UEFA Youth League a few weeks ago - winning the final 5-0 after destroying the likes of Frankfurt, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sporting along the way. And the men are punching well above their weight, the club having to make do with a shoestring budget...
Strange he doesn't even appear to be under consideration. He's even worked with Slot for a while...

Why on earth would we want Pinto? This is hardly a ringing endorsement of finding you talents etc.

He's hired Jose who didn't fit with us, he's signed an out of contract injury prone Dybala and 40 yr olds Matic and Smalling before they get their bus passes!

Don't see any reason why he'd be good for us.

Recognised as a “world-class talent” by Roma owner Dan Friedkin, Pinto has been instrumental in creating a blend of experienced and young talent at the club – a model that Tottenham is keen to replicate.

His accomplishments include enticing Mourinho to Rome, spearheading the recruitment of Juventus’s Paulo Dybala and Nemanja Matic from Manchester United, and successfully extending Chris Smalling’s stay at Roma.

While Pinto remains committed to finishing the season at Roma, his contract expires in a year and he has expressed interest in working in England. Tottenham could be the next chapter in his illustrious career.

He hired Jose who didn’t fit with us, but he’s won the conference league and possibly getting them back into CL.

Signed an out of contract dybala - scored 11 times with 6 assists in 24 league games.

Matic is obviously a mourinho signing like Perisic was for us and Smalling signed before pinto even joined.

Tbh I know nothing about him or whether he’s what we’re looking for I don’t know, but for me what you’ve listed as seemingly negatives dont suggest he’s doing a bad job one at all.

The fact that Spors has been ruled out now makes it pretty clear in my opinion that he was the DOF that Nagelsmann wanted.
Did we establish that this was indeed the deal breaker for Nagelsmann as I struggle to see how for instance if we appoint Steidten that would be far less acceptable to him for his 'project' at Tottenham?

Also i'm right in saying aren't I that at no point did Spors and Nagelsmann ever work together?

I think I remember seeing theere might have been a crossover at Hoffenhiem where Nagelsmann was a youth team manager and Spors had a role above, but I wouldn’t class that as working together tbh and think it was only a few months.

I dont trust Levy and the board to make the right decision. Do you reckon Munn is involved even tho he's not started working yet?

The way this is worded sounds like he’s our #1 choice?

Yet he does say we haven't met him face to face.

Pinto goes against the data driven recruitment department we seem to be trying to create and a wrong match entirely. So it will probably be him.

I think it must be the Rangnick connection with Spors and Nagelsmann.

Snippet from a Guardian interview with Spors.

Not a bad job but not the type of job that we’d want him to replicate with us.

Are there different types of DOF in terms of the role description?

If our structure is we want someone with contacts to make deals and negotiate said deals then I guess a Pinto makes sense. But if we want a science driven leader of data and bringing it all together then I can see why we should be looking at the German market.
