When the east stand was redeveloped in the 80s, was it totally demolished or just re-roofed and reconfigured with the boxes? Because that would mean the concrete lower terrace was built in 1920.

No, there were protests against Scholar's plan to rip out the shelf, he responded by saying boxes had to go there instead "because it had the best view"

It wasn't totally demolished. The part of the stand above the Shelf level was demolished and rebuilt with the boxes built on the back section of the Shelf (hence the 'Sill' that was left) and the new seating and roof above it. The lower tier of the East Stand was still standing terraces for a few years after the redeveloped stand was officially opened in Oct 89. Then the lower tier was reconfigured for seating in the early 90s.

Sorry Drink I think you may be right. Old age taking its toll. I was gutted when the ledge replaced the shelf. And then when we had to go all seater. I was more attached to the ground as was, still tough to see it come down...

Coming down this weekend according to SSC. Very delicate job since it goes over part of the stadium.
