We had a scout on the plane going to see Porto, going to see Falcao...

That's as much as I know, he may have been mugged outside the ground, missed the match and developed an irrational hatred of all things porto, he may have watched the cute colombian score 4 goals and then partied the night away... who knows?

meh.

We should have our targets drawn up and contacted last year. Are we still scouting the same players? HR needs to be more decisive.

we should have got these 2 last season when WE were in the champions league. Why would they leave Porto now?

- To earn more money.
- To play in the best league in the world.
- No point looking in the past. Look to the future.

He is right though. The bird is flown the coup, Falcao will know be fought over by the big cats, Citeh, Chelsea, Inter, Real etc. We have to look at where the next promising striker is, before he has a break through season.

Colombian striker dreams of playing in the Premier League...

By Victor Vago

Porto's £15 million-rated striker Radamel Falcao is dreaming of a move to England and welcomes the interest of Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Aston Villa, according to his father.

The 24-year-old Colombian international, who is his club's top scorer this season with 31 goals, has an ambition to play in the English top flight and his father, Radamel Garcia, told Goal.com UK he is already learning the language to enhance his chances.

One of the hottest properties in European football, Falcao has attracted the attention of various clubs around Europe but it is with English football that his hopes rest. So much so that he would even consider joining a club that is not in the Champions League.

Both Harry Redknapp's Tottenham side — who this week sealed qualification for Europe's premier competition — and Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa have been linked with moves for the player in recent months. Liverpool also reportedly tried to sign Falcao last summer, and his father admits the player will consider all offers made to him.

“All his life he has wanted to play in English football," Garcia told Goal.com UK.

"I’ve heard and read that there are English clubs interested, but I don’t know if it’s true. He’s very attracted by the idea of playing in English football.

“A footballer always wants to go to the best team. It depends on the possibilities. He will listen to the best offer and see what suits him best.

"He also finds the Italian and Spanish leagues attractive. It depends on the club. But he hopes it’s in English football.

“If it’s a team in the Champions League he’ll play in the Champions League, if it’s one that’s not in the Champions League he can play there. It depends which club gives him the best chance to play in English football.

“I don’t know if there’s been any contact from clubs. I only know from what I’ve seen in Portuguese and English newspapers, but nothing concrete has come out yet."

Despite the lack of official contact from interested parties, Falcao has already begun preparing for a move to England, doing all he can to ensure he adapts to his potential new surroundings as quickly as possible.

“He speaks some English. He’s been learning it for five or six years," Garcia revealed.

"In Portugal he has English classes every afternoon. He’s preparing for the possibility of going to England.

“He watches English football on TV a lot. He watches all the matches. He likes Wayne Rooney a lot and liked Thierry Henry when he was there."

Garcia himself was also a professional footballer in Colombia. His son, who is named after Brazilian legend Falcao, gave notice of his own talent in 2008, as he starred for River Plate by leading the Argentinian club to the Clausura championship with 19 goals.

In total he scored 34 goals in 88 appearances for River, before joining Porto in the summer of 2009. Despite a disappointing campaign for the traditional Portuguese powerhouses — which has seen both Benfica and Braga muscle them out of the title race — Garcia admits his son has been well looked-after at Estadio do Dragao.
"He’s treated very well at Porto, they are marvellous people, and it’s not a problem if he stays there," he said.

"The club will decide. If an offer comes in, finances can affect a lot of things. He has a four-year contract, but of course if they receive offers they have to decide, the club and him.”

“He’s not spoken to anyone in England for advice as far as I’m aware. But he’s always learning a lot and that helps him adapt to European football.

“He was young when he went to Buenos Aires, he was just 15, and it’s helped him to adapt quickly to football in different countries.

“Of course in England he would have to get used to a lot of things, the style of play. But he knows how to attack and how to move in different ways, so he can adapt to a different style.”

He wants to come to England regardless of which club, but obviously wants to come to the best club that'll have him. For me, that's us. Chelsea aren't going to buy him, if they get a striker they'll get Neymar. Liverpool are all set for strikers. Man Utd might want a striker if they sell Berbatov, but I think they'll want someone bigger. Arsenal aren't looking for strikers. If City sell Tevez they might go for a striker, but again, I think it'll be a different target. I think we've got a good chance, and we've had ITK about him being scouted every transfer window for two years now...

Guys, please stop being so negative. Until he's actually signed for another club we are very much in the hunt for him. And I think we should be optimistic about our chances.

I'd also be disappointed if we were there scouting Falcao, rather than trying to finalise his signing. The scouting should have been done about 18 months ago.

Hopefully last night will have shown us conclusively that Hulk is horribly overrated and nowhere near the level of Falcao and Rossi.

You're incredible. You have gathered all that based on one game? You said he lacks end product but he leads the whole portuguese league for most goals AND assists this season and it seems you didn't pick up from your "observations" last night that he was the architect for Falcao's second goal.

Do we just scout people once? Or perhaps we want to see potential targets in a variety of circumstances? And since we can't sign anybody now, I can't see why there would be any potential negative to sending people to watch the match. And if Porto are busy selling their star player in the middle of a European semi-final, they really would seem like a poorly run club, which they aren't. But maybe you're worried about carbon footprint.

A Porto fan from another forum said this when asked who was better between Falcao/Hulk

different players. Falcao relies on service, Hulk can win a game on his own when he's top of his form. Even when he's not, and he's a bit wrecked now (played almost every game of the season the full 90 minutes, no rotation for him) he can still break games for us.

I love them both. I don't think there's that much room for them in the top 6/8 European Clubs though. At a club like Tottenham they could improve them massively, but the likes of Barça, Real, United, Chelsea, they all have better players than them and benching these two dedicated professionals would be a crime. Footballing wise, Porto is the best club for them, financially wise they can get better paid elsewhere unfortunately.

Bayern was interested in Falcao last year, they might go for him again, I think he's the type of player that suits them well.
