I was about to say the same but you beat me to it. If this is the case it is basically a "no deal". I can't believe Spurs even bothered starting negotiations if they knew his price would be more or less his buy out clause - and the fact there is 3rd party owner ship.

I just don't believe this. With Villareal only owning a third why can they demand 17M? and of course the 51m release clause is just a standard thing in Spain and on the whole ignored unless the player becomes a world beater and he's not if he can't get into the Argentinian squad. Sounds like a leak to try to squeeze more from Levy - he won't fall for that!

Just pay the man and damn his eyes already. Actually €50m is alot of wedge, given we were talking £16-17m just yesterday. Why not toss in Kaboul rated at £30m, or else add the rest as a clause if we win the CL and Musacchio scores a hatrick in each round?
