I also said from about last December that all he does is dribble from one side of the field to the other; and if he doesn't lose the ball, he'll turn around dribbling back to where he started. And I got so may negs; even up to a couple of weeks ago.

I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep if we sold him and bought in more of a passer for CM.

IMO ahead of Moussa in the pecking order we've got Pauli, Sandro and Capoue who are all powerful midfielders, but no one who can really pull the strings.

Its AVB/Levys fault really. Yes they are all great players on their day but all similar, not a single passer amongst the 4 of them

Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblade ran a report ahead of the game suggesting Dembele was mildly unhappy at his recent role, with the title stating 'Dembele dissatisfied with place on the bench.'

It's a perfectly normal feeling for a footballer to have, each player wants to start at every given opportunity, but comments from the midfielder hints he is worried about his future.

"I can not be satisfied with it, of course, I just want to play as many games. The coach explained that he makes a tactical choice, he wants more defensive players in midfield."

I dont think he is fully fit, a shaddow of the player from the start of last season. Think he should be benched for a while untill we start seeing the real dembele

paulinho's sub. pure a simple. glide past tired legs at 70th minute should be his job. some players need to understand they are more effective when they are impact subs, aka more direct players with pace, such as defoe, lennon, townsend, dembele

It's all well and good him complaining about not starting but he's done very little to suggest that he should be. So far Sandro, Paulinho and even Capoue have all offered more.

I'm a big fan of Dembele, but he's been disappointing.

Dembele is not a DM.
Sandro or Capoue for DM, then MD can do is job.

Good footballer, but not a good midfielder (certainly not in current form).

Defensively his positioning is poor, he doesn't impose himself, and he is very a long way behind the likes of Sandro or Capoue in that role.

Doesn't get anywhere near enough goals for a midfielder, and that's without considering he is a former striker and has the ability to score goals, more ability than a Sandro, and probably more than Paulinho who has already outscored him in his Spurs career.

Really poor work rate. Very content to be marked by someone, doesn't move enough off the ball, and when he does his only movement is to go backwards, either back towards the ball if our centre backs have the ball, or back into a space where the opposition is happy for him (and our team) to go when we have the ball further up.

We kicked off after the Newcastle goal, Dembele ran forward five yards into the Newcastle half then very quickly retreated backwards, why I don't think even he knows.

His passing is nowhere good enough to make up for the rest, and while he does have a fantastic ability to dribble/muscle past an opponent, 99% of the time it is on the halfway line. What is even more annoying is that when he does it nearer to goal he can score - his debut, or the last minute tie winner at Lyon.

I don't see him leading counter attacks, he slows down the play too much, and while I'm not saying we should write him off, he is definitely out of form or being used in a completely wrong way by AVB (or probably both).

Whatever the cause is, I don't think he should be playing at the moment.

On his day last season, he was arguably the closest thing anyone had (minus City of course) to Yaya Toure in the premier league. Just that this season, his form has been absolutely shocking. I would drop him for Holtby to play alongside Sandro. Play him in Europa league or cup competitions for him to find his form again, and then slowly reintroduce him, because to be honest, I still think he is one of our best central midfielders.

This is a slightly odd comparison but here goes. If you compare Dembele with Wilshire, both are excellent (in the main) at protecting the ball and dribbling past an opponent in tight midfield areas. But the difference with Wilshire that completely sets him apart from Dembele, is that Wilshire will dribble past someone and then play some slick forward pass to the other attacking mids or to the forwards. And Dembele will pass it out to the fullbacks who will then pass it back to cb and repeat.

If Dembele could add some incisive forward passing to his game he'd be a monster. But I don't see any evidence of this improving unfortunately.

Is very frustrating seeing Dembele this year, on Sunday there was bundles of occasions he was just stood in the centre circle not looking to receive the ball, not busting a gut and just not generally looking that interested.

Stark difference from start of last year when I truly believe him and Sandro were the best partnership in the Prem and were bossing things. I don't know if it's something AVB is asking him to do that he's not enjoying or whether it's just his mojo has gone but he has definitely gone down the pecking order for me.

It's simple. He needs a proper DM to play alongside. Dembele and Sandro together, not Paulinho. When Paulinho plays they both seem confused. Neither is a DM or an AM. If Sandro sits, Dembele has license, I think he's just confused what's being asked of him

Needs to get more goals and assists than he does. That should be his goal this season and AVB should be drilling it into him.

Put Dembele next to Sandro and you will have the old Dembele back. Those two just work together so well.

Back in my schooldays in HongKong, Dembele would earn a nickname "wet towel". Wringing ( which in Chinese is the same word for dribbling ) it until it is dry ( lost possession ).

Apart from the 1st half against Chelsea, where he was very, very good, to me, his best game this calendar year was at Liverpool last season, where he played a more attacking role coming in off the right. I think we would do better with him dribbling in the attacking third.
