Hmm. Tricky one. Looking like Southampton have backed themselves into a corner. Either face a humiliating climb down and sell, or dig in and risk having arguably their best player become a toxic influence.
Can't say as I condone his behaviour, but at the same time, a part of me feels we've been on the receiving end often enough, maybe we're due something in return.

From who? Southampton? that's not something that a club ever does is it, did they say that publicly about Lallana and Lovren with Liverpool?
I know why you ask but there were clearly discussions taking place early on as people in the business are aware and clearly schneiderlin was led to believe he could go even if it was at the right price and he wouldn't have tweeted as he did if it was a simple case of being told he was wanted at Saints as a central player to their future plans, the tweet clearly came from a sense of betrayal.
He knows Tottenham want him and obviously wouldn't be this adamant if he didn't know the likley terms we are offering, yes he could know that because we tapped him up, but much as some want to believe it Daniel Levy doesn't work that way and lets be honest if we had Southampton would be going public about it; they ain't and we didn't so conversations must have been kosher.
More tellingly Southampton have not "quoted" that they told him he was staying right from the start and had never led him to believe otherwise which they would have done had it been so.
So as you'd expect, no direct "quotes" but a solid body of evidence nevertheless.

Ronald Koeman sounds like AVB about Bale.

He can say all he wants "He's not leaving" truth is if we offer the correct amount they'll accept it and say they had no choice.

My tuppence worth as a perennial lurker is that MS would be such an important signing as it would show a statement of intent from DL towards MoPo - if he were to pay over the odds of what some of us think is his worth, it would mean DL going above and beyond to secure our manager's main target.

I also think it may be somewhat interesting to note that the man who was in charge of the Soton team value MS over any of the other players that have left the team (even though Shaw was the one who really impressed me the most when watching them).

On a side note however, i think what has happened to Soton is a disgrace and shows everything that is wrong in modern football and to some extent should worry us as well as it proves how easy it is for "big" clubs to dismantle the challengers (yes i appreciate that players have moved to bigger clubs before, but i cannot recall a time when it seems so difficult for teams so close to the top being still so far away)

Koeman saying he has faces big problems, and serious consequences, if he comes back on Monday, after being given the weekend off to think, and still has the same stance.

Also saying he signed a contract and should respect that.

I just find it funny that he's served them for far longer, bar Lallana, than any of the rest of them yet they sell them no problem...Lovren ffs...only one season...Chamber's only a handful of games.

Is Koeman that stupid to believe that a "weekend off" will suddenly make Schneiderlin want to play at Southampton???

Koeman's as deluded as the Southampton fans.

Just playing the political game me thinks,

the way he has gone public with this is not because he thinks MS is going to change his stance (He's French FFS)

but to make MS the villain in the eyes of the Soton Supporters.

They sound utterly desperate.

They know their position has been weakened. To be honest, if they really did break promises this could piss MS off even more.

Think this will become a full on strike now from him.

Do you think they can afford to make an example of him and stick him in the Ressies until January?

I don't think he will ever play for them again to be honest, this kind of situation only ends one way, sure they can make a player stay, but they can't make him try/ put effort in, if his heart is no longer in it. I am not saying its the right way to go about it, but if he has basically given up on southampton, then his value to the saints in keeping him is basically zero.

When a situation gets to this stage there is only one outcome and thats to sell the player for the best deal you can.

They could but I just don't see the point really. I think they're gearing up to be sold and this is all about making MS looking the bad guy in the eyes of the fans.

Did anyone see this line from Koeman...assume it was in his presser but I'm only seeing it now:

Will he stay?

"I don't know, I like that he say... key player... like him to stay..."

Jesus...surely the highlighted bit is the start of the public backtracking!?

Yeah, we prodded all the holes in his presser earlier, pinky. He's talking shite and toeing the line, he knows he's leaving.
