Guys like you are the reason why he, a top source, is growing ever more silent and secretive. If that's your goal, well played.

:)

You should listen to yourself.

Everything I've read from this bloke I've thought was largely crap. I followed him for a bit, saw all the bullshit fawning by folk such as yourself, found it rather laughable and cringeworthy and unfollowed him ages ago. He takes the piss out of most Spurs fans, as do the other mugs that pop up with their stuff immediately after some media outlet have gone public with something. They're all embarrassing and cringey.

Let's not get into a slanging match over basically fuck all. SS take it from us that JJ knows his stuff, which doesn't invalidate you finding some of the fawning and stuff a bit cringe-worthy (tbf it is!).

I'm very glad no one on SC is in a power position at our club. Complaints about us going in with a derisory bid of 13 M and disgust at Levy for not giving Southampton a higher first bid.

Do you know what a higher first bid results in? A higher final bid. Southampton says 27, we say 13. After haggling, we settle on 20. If we started at 20 we'd end up at 24-25...

You need to start off with a low, almost derisory bid to ensure you get a fee both clubs can agree on and be happy with. If you save a few million per transfer that can equate to an extra transfer for depth per summer. Think that we most likely saved around 3-7M on the Vorm & Davies transfers by bidding low, with another 10M saved by throwing Gylfi into the mix. That's 13-17 right there, rising to 18-23 M saved if my bad example of how low bidding works is continued. That's a top class CB that we didn't have to dig deeper for.

For all the hatred Levy gets for being tight fisted he's done a damn good job running the club responsibly. Look at Saints, for example - club in shambles, owner wants out, high debts, probably asset stripping the club to pay off debts in preparations for opening up to bids - that's exactly the situation a lot of clubs outside the top-4 will find themselves in. But not us, not with Levy. Because we're not like Liverpool, we won't immediately agree to 20M for an 8 M player. We'll offer 5 and settle on 10...
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Levy - but there are many ways of negotiating to a common ground - going in low/high is only one way. It does carry the risk of creating unnecessary acrimony - but as long as everyone to the negotiation understands your perspective, it can be navigated.

Another way to approach the negotiation is to look at the middle ground as ~£20M, and you go in with a total bid around £18M, and then hold firm when it reaches £20M.

I think both ways are fine - as long as the other side understands your intentions. If they think you intend to stick with the lowball valuation, you may never get to the middle ground, and if they think you are "soft" by starting at £18M, they may not want to settle @ £20M. All in how you communicate.

Levy has a reputation as a tough negotiator - that may have scared off Soton if he came in so low to start - given the premiums they had gotten in previous negotiations with teams this summer. I don't know what Levy's initial bid really was, but I trust that he knows what he is doing here, and can get Soton back to the table, if he thinks a reasonable deal can be struck. (Having said that, I hope he is willing to go a little over his own valuation here, not a lot, to back Pochettino, I think Schneiderlin, in particular, is worth it because we do not have his skill set on the squad right now.)

Scottish Spur - would you have called Ryan Nelsen and Saha at the end of the January transfer window in 2012 before anyone else....

Thought not.

Hope A&C enjoys his time with you!

This whole has he/hasn't he over whether or not he's put in a transfer request is exactly the kinda shit that we're gonna have to put up with now.

What annoys me is that Southampton only made a stand when we came in for players, not when the rest of them did. I swear, we're cursed.

If you don't like it, don't read it, or at least take it with a pinch of salt. But don't slag of people who take time out to post stuff that some people find interesting.
This is the transfer rumours section, if you want to stick to facts only, then stick with the OS.
