Tottenham ‘line up World Cup star who terrorised England to replace Harry Kane’ as Bayern step up transfer...

Steve Goodman
TOTTENHAM have stepped up their interest in Porto strike sensation Mehdi Taremi, according to reports.
The Iran international hit 31 goals in 51 games last season as his club won the Portuguese Cup and League Cup.
Mehdi Taremi scored from the spot against England during the Qatar World Cup
Taremi, 31, won a league and cup double with Porto in 2022, and has 80 goals from 147 games with the Primeira Liga side.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou faces the real prospect of losing Harry Kane, with Bayern Munich still trying to sign the Englandcaptain.

And reports in both Portugal and Iran claim Tottenham chiefs have opened talks with Taremi's advisors about a potential move to north London.
Taremi has just has a year left on his contract and Porto want around £17million for him.

They paid league rivals Rio Ave a bargain £4.25m for the striker in 2020.
Dubbed a late bloomer, Taremi has previously attracted interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
He scored an incredible bicycle-kick goal in Porto's 1-0 Champions League win over the Blues in April 2021.
He also netted when he scored against England during Iran's 6-2 loss during the 2022 Qatar World Cup group stage.https://dreamteam.app.link/Gxqel1GbHBb
Taremi won a Persian Gulf Pro League title with Persepolis in 2017 before joining Qataris Al-Gharafa.
Capped 68 times, he has taken to European football like a duck to water since moving to Rio Ave four years ago.
And the striker could now become Spurs' Prince of Persia if Kane's transfer saga ends in a move to Germany.

I hope this is just pricing up various replacement options before making a decision.

Di Marzio was reliable in Conte/Paratici era but I doubt he still is. Taremi is actually really good, also scored 5 goals with 2 assists in 7 CL games last season, it's not like he is only good in Portugal. If only he was younger.

He's a pretty decent player, but feels like someone you'd bring in to rotate with Kane rather than replace him. And at his age it's a puzzling one but perhaps it's just a fall back option.

The last time DiMarzio had a big new name for us it was Vicario, which was wrapped up within 48 hours.

Not saying we’ll get him but if Kane is off then it wouldn’t surprise me if we got this guy in as a placeholder for a season or two whilst Veliz/Orban develop.

Absolutely nothing we've done this summer makes me believe we're in the market for a 31yo Iranian striker playing in Portugal for €30m.

He’s a pretty damn good goalscorer. I’m not sure he fits Ange style of play but then the same could’ve been said about Kane. Maybe we’d bring in Taremi as rotation with Richarlison and say Orban as the sub/development player. Along with the Argentinian being loaned out I kind of prefer this than blowing it all on Muani.

Maybe we want to minimize risk, have a player in his prime plus one or two youngsters? I would believe it more if we didn't have Richarlison, but maybe his injury is really bad? Not sure what to believe, strange Summer transfer window so far.

Yeah it feels like if we do this one then it'll be with two other young strikers (Veliz & Orban) which would make much more sense. That would be much more palatable as Taremi is a good number 9.

No no no no no. We wouldn’t be this dumb, surely.

Someone is clearly throwing as many names around as possible Paratici style to deter from the one we are after. I hope it's Kolo-Muani with Veliz as backup. Wouldn't be against Orban and Veliz but as someone has highlighted Kolo offers RW options to rotate with as well

If we bring in Taremi I can't see where all these players are fitting. If Orban and Veliz come in too then they'll be both heading out on loan along with Scarlett. Sign all the strikers!!!

Watched his highlights reel, large chunk of it is him dropping off the CB’s and playing clever little through balls, almost Kane’esque, however not seen a raft of goals on the video I watched, doesn’t look an Ange type CF.

The article actually says they want £17m for him so, if true, could maybe get him for a few million less.
The thought, if it's not total bollocks, may be to have him as an option for a few years while Veliz develops.
He has a great conversion rate.

I don't really have an opinion on his quality but I would say don't get too caught up on his age. In fact 31 might be just about the right age to lead into younger strikers being linked/actually happening.

Pretty much a 1 in 2 goalscorer in Portugal and Europe over the least 4 seasons.

He's actually a pretty decent player, and would suit Ange's system well.

Just seems we are going to be linked to every striker out there though now, with a lot of shit being thrown and seeing what sticks by the sports journos
