A lot of great performances tonight, Woodgate, Berbatov etc but Zokora again both in defence and midfield stood out for me.

Gutted about the result, but it just goes to show how far we have come, that we went away to a regular CL club, who are miles ahead in their league, and we outplayed them, won, and should have won by more.

Give Ramos the summer to sign some quality players, and we should be looking good for next season.

Keane was never in the game really, needs a rest for me, Bent did as much as Keane and PSV can thank Gomes for saving them really, he saved a few of Bents shots that could have got past.

I didnt think spurs played that badly, just thought they could be more clinical. paxtonite's rating would be roughly right if 5 meant average game

Just thought id add, i dont agree that bent stood out as a 4, i thought he wasnt the best, but not really worth the criticism he's getting imo

For me it was Malbranque tonight. Thought he had another great game and defensively he was top notch when asked to play at left back against a very tricky winger in Farfan.

Berbs did well but drifted in and out of the game and got lazy at times.....great goal though.

JJ was not at his best, seemed off the pace a little bit, maybe still suffering a little bit with the ankle injury.

Bent wasn't terrible but he still doesn't offer enough for me, and to see Defoe banging them in at Portsmouth just makes the situation even worse!

Thought Woody and King looked so assured again tonight, just wish they could both stay fit and play week in week out, because they have the potential to be the best partnership in the Prem....just a shame it won't ever happen.

Thought Woodgate was again immensely solid.

Everyone else played well on the whole, we should have won it. If it wasn't down to poor finishing/final balls, we'd be through.

Don't compare Defoe at Portsmouth with Defoe at Spurs or Bent at Spurs. He didn't score regularly for us when he started and it's a different team and a different system. Bent nearly scored with his first touch and he will score in the future. But it was Dimitar all the way for me. When he plays well, we play well.

Funny old game. There were times when our lack of ingenuity just let us down. Approach play was good at times and effort could not be faulted. This summer we must add some genuine guile, intelligent craft & creativity. Too many times we run out of ideas against tough sides. Against anyone else the deficiency rarely shows itself. It's really the only difference between us and the top 2/3 sides. We gave a regular CL side a good game tonight. Out possessed and out shot them, in their back yard. Had to go out tonight and my Sky+ fucked up and only taped up to the first half of extra time. so my ratings go till then. Ratings:

Robinson 8 - highest mar for a long time. Did nothing wrong all game.

Chimbonda 6.5 - Worked hard but sold himslef several times needlessly.

Woodgate 8 - Great game.

King 7.5 - Good game until subbed.

Lee 7 - Good game until subbed

Huddlestone 7 - worked hard but a bit disapointing really. Gave te ball away needlessly sometimes and no real outstanding passes.

Jenas 6 - Probably worst game I've seen him have for a while. Maybe injury or differing roles he was given I don't know but he was just not great tonight.

Zokora 7 - Effort and prettycompetant considering he played in about 4 positions.

Malbranque 7.5 - No one puts more effort into a game than this little fella. My only grumble is his final ball/finish sometimes lets him down but he's been playing out of position all season but still gives his all.

Keane 6 - Didn't really contribute much but did run around in that keane way. Games like this you need a bit more.

Berbatov 8.5 - Immense effort. Since Ramos got here he's like a different player. He's still got the touch but the effort he's putting in now is so much better. Effort and ability is the football nirvana for me.

Bent 6 - This bloke is the anithasis of Berbatov. No finesse, no guile. So limited.

Lennon 6 - Bit disapointing really. worked hardish but didn't really scare them enough going forward.

Ohara 6.5 - Did well enough.

Just in case anyone's feeling miffed just imagine how PSV fans are feeling. Outplayed by a side who have never played CL football and they were a kick away from getting what they deserved.

Tbh, if i was a PSV fan id feel releaved and too happy to really care at the moment. I'm sure they also know that spurs are at the top end of UEFA football

Pretty much agree, but Jenas, if he didn't have a great game, worked his arse off, as usual. Bent isn't Berbatov—who is?—but still did pretty well and I'd nudge him up a point. Great attempt that took an even better save to keep out, and a bit of misguided selflessness when he'd have been better off taking a pot.

I am a big Jenas fan but he did'nt do one thing right in the whole game, should have been subbed long before he took that really poor penalty.
Keane was terrible and is out of form,if we are going to keep Bent next season then no disrespect to Robbie,he has to play in every single game until the end of the season.
Woodgate and Berbatov were superb,Robbo,King and Zokora did everything well.
For next season,I think our team could be transformed if we buy 2 quality wingers who can put dangerous balls into the box.

Bent - He seems like he is a rabbit in the headlights, when I say that, I mean it looks like he is trying too hard to give the ball to Keane or Berba - If he played to his natural ability and was more confident he would have scored a couple last night. I do belive he can score for us, not sure if he will be shipped out in the summer though.

Berba - Like someone said above, like a different player, cannot say anything that hasn;t already.

Jenas - From the minute started every time he got the ball he was harried by two players, kicked a lot from the start. They know that Jenas is a huge threat and PSV were out to stop him, so they limited his play - I was dissappointed to see so many of our players booked, yet hardly any of there when they must have fouled jenas about 6 times in the first 20 or so minutes - also fiar play to him for running through the pain barrier, could clearly see he wasn't fit.

Huddlestone - This is why we will not be able to compete against the top 4. Now this isn't an insult to Hudd, as I think he had a decent game last night and got better as the night went on, but he doesn't seem to have the class required to step up, we need better player in our midfield who can step into the team and perform.

Robbo - Best game in seasons, made all the right decisions, made some supurb saves, great handling. |Are we seeing him get back to his best? I hope so, as last night was a great performance by him.

Woodgate - Am I the only one who believes we are lucky to have such a player in our team. He is fucking immense, he doesn't give up, he battles, he is great in the air, great in the tackle, calm under pressure. This player is fucktastically good, he should be a starter for England without a doubt (injury sparing of course!!!)

King - As above, but needs to recover from his injuries. I will expect us to get a better centre defender in the summer so we are not too reliant on King, but him and Woodgate are an amazing combination of players.

Lennon - I remember the other week that Tarrabt (sp??) got a bit of a hammering for not getting his first touch after ten minutes... did we see Lennon do anything in the first ten minutes he came on - nope. Poor showing last night, he looked far too lightwegith, getting bundled off the ball way to easily, would have preferred to have seen him on the right flank, going outside, rather than left flank going inside.

Was gutted to be honest, we should have won, if it wasn't for 2 awesome saves by their keeper - I still have no idea how he kept Steed's shot out!!!!

Although, would you really want a keeper that puts your defense under that much pressure.. I'm not too sure, amazing keeper, but seriously dodgy, standing on his 18 yard line to punch ball away in the dieing minutes of a european qtr final game... that guy has fucking balls of steel I tell ya...

Zokora off the ball was a 9 on it he was a 4... First half especailly his passing was suicidal on the edge of our area... twice in a matter of minutes tried soft 1-2's with lee and just passed it to Affelay's feet.

Jenas, after he went through but failed to make his mind up, looked to have bottled it.. he did that fake limp thing and shook his head to come off. Ramos stood firm and kept him on and lo and behold Jenas was alright afterall. disappointing Jenas.

I don't blame Chimbonda for his miss. he wasn't in the top 5 and he's not a great striker of the ball... I do find myself angry at Jenas' dolly of a pen though. I'm sure everyone was thinking the same as me. bang it hard... but alas he kept his head down, opened up his body about 2 strides before hitting it and even my cats meowed "keepers left".... i'm a Jenas fan btw.

overall at that pace of game agasint that level of orgianisation we lacked technical guile in most area's. Despite creating enough chances to win they never seemed much like controlled moments.. we bullied and harrassed them with constant but not accurate pressure. We payed on the edge of good and aweful and at times our compsure when presented with chances to shoot, failed us. Aside from Huddlestone and Berbatov who played with thier heads up, the rest seemed to be playing football like they would the lottery.

TEAM:

Robinson - 7 - Done well when needed. Disappointing at penalties but then always has been to my mind

Chimbonda
- 8 - Had a stormer (penalty miss aside). He was up and down that right wing for the full 120 mins and gave it everything. Spurs man of the match for me. Our main attacking threat seemed to stem from him bombing on down the right.

Woodgate
- 8 - Looked even more assured then King and that takes some doing

King
- 7 - Looked ok but this constant subbing of Ledley mid game is worrying

Lee
- 6 - Ineffective performance and very one dimensional and one footed. The few times he did try a left footed delivery it ended up bobbling weakly across the grass to the first defender.

Malbranque
- 7 - Good in patches although final link pass or threaded ball always seem to go astray. Almost won it for us at the death with a cracking shot.

Zokora
- 8 - Played very well and protected the defense. When he was shifted position he was even better. Great performance although still the odd clumsy tackle.

Jenas
- 4 - Bad bad game. His passing and general distribution deserted him and he looked a passenger for most of that game. Can't blame him for penalty save. Was an amazing save from their comedy keeper!

Huddlestone
- 6 - Has the turning circle of a small layland daf. This guy has the ability but lacks the mobility. Far too casual in parts too. His distribution was better then JJ's but still not great.

Keane - 6 - Frustrating evening for Keano. Nothing dropped right for him and always seemed a yard away when on other days the ball would drop to his foot and he would have bagged a few goals.

Berbatov - 8 - Held the play up very well, flicked the ball on and brought others into play. His goal was nothing short of breathtaking. His only let down was his tempremant which may see others scoring him lower.

SUBS:

Lennon - 6 - Looked his usual pacey self but lacked any penetration

Bent - 7 - Did quite well I thought. Constantly won the aerial battle and looked sharper then in previous games. Got a good feeling Bent's getting back to his usual self.

O'Hara - 6 - Done ok...nothing more, nothing less

OVERALL:

We gave it everything but, as has happened in previous games before it, we lack the final killer pass or the lethal finishing required. You look at F.Torres as an example and you can see what I mean. Some bold tactical moves from Ramos which so nearly paid off. His switching of positions and players is a wonder to behold tbh and considering we we're away and no matter what formation we played, we we're better all over the park then PSV. On any other day we could have won that 4-0 so i'm certainly not disappointed with the performance given (JJ aside), just obviously very disappointed we're out of Europe.

As BC said, we do lack guile in the midfield, so most things were a bit telegraphed. It took something really special from Berbs to score. We outplayed them for large periods of the game, but we never really looked like scoring. Such a frustrating match.

I didn't think Bent did that badly. His header was good, and I think he suffered because there were a couple of times when he held the ball up well but other players were a bit too knackered to join in the attack.

I KNEW that Jenas would miss his pen. I just knew it. Somehow, it sums him up. He was our captain and I just knew that he would crumble. He always talks the talks but somehow, mentally, he's very rarely tough enough to walk the walk. He's not a bad player and has improved a lot this season, but when it really counts I don't think he's got what it takes.

Jenas - 4 - Bad bad game.

Jenas - 5

I think "what?!?!" describes this.

Aside from his penalty miss, I thought he was awesome. He was everywhere, getting kicked to shit all over the place, running his lungs out, quite clearly not fit.

How he's not rated alongside Zokora I don't know [who had a better game-ish]. I give up sometimes - I don't really know what to say - he carries our central midfield whoever he plays with. He's one and a half men - and it's patently obvious that we miss him terribly when he's not on the field.

Stop expecting him to be Gerrard.
