Chimbonda - No rating and he's history.

What an absolute prick you are, pal. No rating! The guy played his heart out for us as far as I can see. Whether or not he performed to your or anyone else's expectations is another matter. You want to single a guy out citing this kind of bullshit? You were probably one of those whining on Thursday night 'cause things weren't going exactly to plan. Are you about 10 years old and expect us to win finals every couple of years? If so, I forgive you. If not you know fuck all about Spurs and should go back to supporting Man U like you did last season. Disgraceful attitude!!!!!!

yup, Cech had already committed the other way. Love Keane, but I want Berbatov taking the PKs.

He may be overreacting but I think he was referring to Chimbonda's petulance at being substituted, but to be fair he did come out and supported and applaud the lads at the end. Of course he played well. SWP didnt have a sniff.

A man after my own heart. Well sad. pal. What gets me is people on here still want to snipe when we've won a major trophy. To quote from my old nemises, Blue Mauvey: monominds.

Those criticising Lennon's first-half performance should try and think just how many times Bridge got forward and put a cross in—the best part of his game. Lennon's presence completely neutralised him as an attacking threat.

I thought I'd just be addressing Marty....but as expected they're piling in motivated by emotion imo...and why not .

Anyway ,I've been back to the pen Marty and the GK is moving from foot to foot before Berbs kicked it . To suggest that a world class keeper like this would telegraph which way he was about to dive is ludicrous .

I was penalty taker ( none missed) for all my teams up to county level and its my experience that the pen taker is on very thin ice if he hasn't decided which way he's going to shoot BEFORE he takes his run up . What he has to be sure of is that his shot is RIGHT in the corner so if the goalie goes the right way then he still scores .

I know in the excitement of winning and the scoring its easy to imagine pen takers have super human powers , so enjoy the emotion . It was a 50/50 penalty we had the luck .

When a delayed runup is made by the pen taker (Robbie did a few before his nerve seemed to go) , then we're talking about the keeper being outfoxed as the striker will make time for himself to decide where to put the ball AFTER the keeper has committed . But with Berb's goal this is not the case .

Great day COYS

general levy you mug. Woodgate was incredible, easy motm. Hutton was good, Jenas was very good, Zokora was also very good. Despite missing those two chances he broke up so many attacks.

Calm down dear, it is only the internet.

I agree, and would also extend this to Malbranque. Both wide men worked hard and showed a lot of discipline in keeping their respective positions.
In fact the whole team kept to their designated positions and when one of them moved forward, such as King, they were always covered (in this case by Zokora).

I'd add that Berb was ice cool for the penalty BUT , it was a 50/50 penalty , meaning if the goalie guesses right , its an easy save . There was no delayed run up , he got the 50% chance , lucky . There will be complaints about this assessment but I'm used to it...I got almighty stick for saying the same about Defoe's last penalty he scored ( before fucking up the next 3) . Everyone here was wrong so bring it on....poor penalty .

This game was all about the central pairing at the back and in the middle.
Woodgate and King deserve 10's, considering the amount of games they have played and the opposition they were almost flawless.
Zokora and Jenas deserve 9's, they bossed the middle against some of the best CM's in the world. Essien and Mikel were subbed, need I say more?

I agree that the game was won in the centre, and Woodgate and King were fantastic.

I disagree somewhat about the CM battle. We won it for the first half hour, but then Zokora was caught out of position twice and gave away two reckless freekicks (from one of which Drogba scored).

Second half, Chelski were very negative, and were crowding us out in CM. I think the introduction of Huddlestone with his superior range of passing, and the switch of JJ into a more forward CM position - directly against Mikel - gave us the CM balance to win the game. With the three CMs of Zokora, JJ, and T'Hud, we gradually started bossing them again. JJ got better and better the more the 127 minutes went on...

absolute nonsense

i agree, beratov waited untill the keeper dived, he picked the side that was open and easly sloted it in, if he dived the other way he had time to put it to the other side!

For Berbatov to do what he did to the best GK in the world is nothing short of brilliant. Made Cech commit before the ball had left his foot.

I'm also reminded that we played Slavia Prague only 3 days ago, and in hindsight the uninspiring game was just enough to get through to the next round and not stress anybody out - perfect.

I'm afraid I have to disagree.

I spent the best part of 10 years playing senior football in goal and there were several players I faced who were that good they could delay a penalty to see if the keeper would commit, and if he didn't could place the ball in the corner of the net.
After a while I asked one of them how they did it and was told that you aim to put the ball the way you kick ( a right footer to the right). If the keeper goes early that way you just turn your foot over and you put it in the other corner. If he stands up to it you just place it in that corner. If he dives early the wrong way (as Cech did) then you can just roll it in.

Berbatov has the brain and the ability to do this so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
