Some people need to check their half time comments and see how embarrassing they are. Too many fans are far too fickle, slagging off half the team at half time (Mostly Lloris) then praising his class save in the second half and praising the whole team once we've won. Thats not what being a fan is. Fans like this just make themselves look like bellends at full time.

Brilliant performance.
It's the same with Kulusevksi.

"Why are we signing a Juve cast off, they say he's shit"

"He's very slow" or "He's a bit meh"

Then pivot.

Lloris has done a lot for this club. He's got a lot of credit in the bank and whilst I did cry "why Hugo", I've been fully behind him.

I think it's fair to not like a player or have the belief they are not good enough but far too many people are ready to jump on one mistake or write off a player after a 15 minute cameo.

It's just annoying coming in here to see it.

As in they have kept 7 clean sheets out of the last 10 games, and that’s considered poor defensively? Or did I misinterpret your comment? I would have thought that not conceding a goal in 7 out of 10 would be considered as very good, if not excellent defensively? Sorry if I misunderstood.
Sorry yeah I’ve worded that pretty badly. I’m surprised they’ve managed to keep that many clean sheets given what we’ve seen today.

My main point was that I think that playing City is mostly a mental game. If teams are brave enough to commit players forward and actually try to attack them, they’ll find they are way more successful than they think they will be. As someone else pointed out, most teams go to the Etihad with the mindset of damage limitation and so City don’t really need to defend anyway. Today showed that if teams are brave and have a go, City will show their defensive fragilities.

his hand was going down naturally, as much of a pen as sissoko in UCL - extra 2 mins was a nonsense - he made sure he gave city time to equalise

The rules are if the hand/arm is away from the body, the rule doesn't cover that sometimes away from the body may be natural depending on balance. So the rules allow those penalties and when they are enforced there isn't really an argument unless the rules are changed.

this may sound odd...
I do feel today was in direct response to our last two defeats. Win those , today may have not happened. Everyone needed to turn up including Conte with the selection.
Then we’d have 6 points instead of 3. Point stands. Really need to keep our focus more often. So costly.

City claiming they should have won the game because they had most of the ball and did most of the attacking is understandable but sad. What they need to understand is that, self evidently, our defending was better than their attacking and our attacking was better than their defending, their two goals came from a bad mistake by our keeper and a penalty, they never really broke us down and got through us otherwise.
The most important stat is the FT score. City lost because we scored more goals than them. The ref tried his best playing two mins over.

This feels really good.

Levy is like..."Steady up, we just bate the Champs again, we don't need much reinforcements"

MNF is all we have for good insightful football conversation, the rest is generic bullshit.

Souness talking about the style of play today, has he not watched how 95% of teams play vs Man City?

How any times have we beaten them using the same template?

I wish English football analysis and general conversation was on the level of other sports.

Souness & many other pundits are irrelevant dinosaurs for the way the game is now played.
For balance I think even GHod gets some wrong but he's nothing like as much of an irrelevance as sour-ness, Keane, JR Redknapp and many others I can't list!
They want smacking in the chops with a very large 5 day old cod!

Ah, that makes total sense. Yeah, I hear what you are saying. Both they and Liverpool have the ability to push up and pin teams back into their own halves. This is only feasible if you have extremely technical players all over the field, who are disciplined, committed, focused, and brave. But it can be risky if the opposition have the players to break through their defensive line, and can either get in behind them and force them to defend. Oddly enough. I feel that Pool are a better defensive unit than City. Because you are correct in that City don’t look completely comfortable defending in or just outside their 18 yard box. Not sure if it’s the players or just the style of play?

But the risk for the opposition team, is if you lose focus or do something boneheaded after you have committed players forward, then they will rip you to pieces on the counter. Hence, I think why so many teams approach playing with damage limitation in mind.

Completely agree mate.

Like you said, after his very brief debut it was all "He has no pace" etc etc. Today he showed his qualities, defensively but also on the ball he was very good and his assist for Kanes winner was a perfectly weighted floated cross. His weight of pass even in tight areas is exceptional.

The Lloris hate pisses me off most as he's never been good with his feet so why we keep putting him in situations he's never been comfortable with beggars belief. However he's easily won us way more points with his saves over the years than he has cost us points. He's our captain and an extremely good goalkeeper. Yet if he does make a mistake the "Need to replace Hugo" comments start up again.

As you say, annoying.

If we make our new home a fortress & stop conceding sloppy two or three goals a game, sprinkled with a bit more mental fortitude (fans and players alike) and proper recruitment and backing in transfer windows then we can be very very good next season, that starts with not taking the games like Burnley away for granted.

Please don't take this post as a whinge in the the match day thread as I thought they played very well; I missed the first half (also I hate VAR or at least how it's being used)

Well that's the problem, mistakes in midfield and defence. Its not the scapegoat Winks. We made mistakes today and got away with it apart from Lloris (don't know what his problem is with trying to catch/hold the ball sometimes instead of batting it away when he isn't surrounded by pressure). And no-one should expect we will tum Burnley over, our game against teams who put men behind the ball is that we struggle. Against teams like City who go onto the pitch with us knowing we are inferior and they will have possession and can put bodies in our half (which will usually punish us), our expectations are much different.

They didn't. Villa couldn't stop them taking Grealish and that was the difference.
Maybe not but they could have had a case in a tribunal if it was written in that it was a hidden release clause as apparently no one was supposed to know which is why Villa were fuming.

To a man, all our boys played their part today, granted some more than others, but give credit where it's due. The game plan was excellent and for the most part, we contained them. This wasn't a lucky win. It was a well thought out game plan, executed very well indeed and scored when we needed to and had to. They scored from a mistake and a penalty. The biggest thing for me was that we kept going to try and win it, and it paid dividends. Do this week in and week out, and we will be amongst the top 4 come May. We still need new blood and some today will probably not be here in August.
And while all the praise can be heaped in the players today, we cannot underestimate the influence Antonio Conte is having. Jesus, if only Levy and Co can see that and give the man what he needs. Today should be a turning point for all.
Well done boys
