The Argentina international Martinez is the shortest central defender in the Premier League - at 5ft 9in (1.75m) he is a clear inch shorter than any other regular centre-back in the top flight.

"If you're going to sign a 5ft 9in centre-back, he's not going to be able to compete in this league," Redknapp told Sky Sports after the game.

"He might be okay in the Dutch league where it's not quite as physical but when you play here you know week in, week out teams are looking to expose any weakness like Brentford did today, like Brighton did last week and like Liverpool will do.

Exactly what I thought.

It must sting so much that we were such there inferior for so long and now we've gone right past them.

Yes we've won nothing in recent times but Neville is well aware of our progression and their rapid decline.

Such a stark contrast
While I agree we are in a better position as a club and have a better squad, manager and stadium. I don’t agree we have gone past them as we have not won anything. I want us to stay quiet and humble and bust our ass off to try and get some trophies in and then we will have finally got where we need to be.

This opening paragraph

A fish rots from the head down and so do Manchester United. We know the root of most of their problems stem from the boardroom and maybe the Red Devils are damned for as long as the Glazers’ name is above the door. But even if they were owned by a Taliban/Isis consortium, the players and staff at Old Trafford would have no excuse for what they have just served up at Brentford.

And further down

No manager out there is capable of reviving the braindead bunch of surrender monkeys currently being paid huge sums to phone it in for Manchester United.

I think he does have to take some of the blame though. He has bought an defender that is clearly not cut out for this league. He is prioritising Bruno who is useless over Eriksen. He is playing Eriksen as a DM for the first time in his career. He had Varane on the bench and is playing Maguire who is basically a disaster. If I was a Utd fan I'd be worrying he is totally out of his depth.
Oh I agree massively, I mean when has eriksen been good at defensive duties and whilst good on the ball, not exactly calm under pressure - they played the ball out targeting him several times - that’s a training ground routine all day long and the manager has to take the blame for that passing out from the back style, eriksen taking the ball under pressure from just outside his box…

that’s not how to play him ??‍♂️

Just shows how good Fergie was was at player selection and management, you can spend spend spend but a fool and his money are soon parted.

Fergie also bought loads of duds. The difference was that United were in a position where they could afford the occasional dud, whereas now they need to get everything right and are nowhere near.

If I’m not mistaken, wasnt Roy Keane suggesting Man U go for Harry Kane at the back end of last season.

These Fergie era ex pros are really struggling to adjust the new reality - Man U are not the draw they once were and THFC are far more attractive proposition. I could suggest that we go for their best players bnut there’s nobody I’d want

I've watched United's two opening games.

People will still criticise Maguire, but there are so many more pressing issues in that team it's unbelievable.

Infact him and Ronaldo seem to get all the brunt of the media. On the pitch though....

If de gea goes on some bad form they are screwed.

Lisandro Martínez is going to be embarrassed week in, week out.

The performance of mcktominay off the bench against Brentford was one of the worst I have seen by any football player.

Bruno Fernándes looks lost.

Rashford, I think is gone, looks an absolute shadow of a player.

Sancho has not adapted to the premier league. He's simply not good enough, don't care about the hype.

United should play three at the back, sign Declan rice (should have signed bissouma or Phillips). They need to sign a centre forward as well. (That's in the short term)

They need a proper rebuild.

My early bet is that Ajax re-sign Martinez for about 10% of the value paid.

Let's be honest this isn't Ten Hags fault not even in the slightest, squad of players are an embarrassment Ten Hag was a promising up and coming coach who's ruining his reputation just by being at United
Sorry but this just isn’t true. Everything that happens on the pitch is a reflection of the head coach/manager. He has had the whole preseason to sort out patterns of play, drill into the players what he expects, they can’t string a couple of passes together, it’s playground stuff. It’s ultimately his responsibility to get them playing well, psychologically and physically.
You can’t tell me that an attacking line up of Sancho, Bruno, Ronaldo, Rashford, Eriksen are not good enough to form some decent attacks and score goals? What is he telling them to do?
Yeh they are clearly a mess as a business, but Ten Hag shouldn’t be letting this affect the playing side. He looks lost!

So true, also the amount of money across all Premier League clubs has gone up, it is much more difficult to get the best player from another team now. Which is something Fergie era United teams use to prey upon.

That’s us as well now. The last press conference by Conte he said we cannot make anymore mistakes in the transfer market if we want to take the next step.

It got me thinking in relation to the lad from Roma that Conte by all accounts really wants, given that he says we cannot afford transfer mistakes he must be pretty confident in this player.

But not as many duds as last 10 years.:)

just had a browse of a few United channels and forums, I get the feeling it’s is going to go off big time next week against Pool there is so much I’ll feeling towards the board and now the players. If Pool put them to the sword at Old Trafford then it’s going to get real ugly, real fast.

Keep hearing United fans calling for it, but can anyone think of a reason as to why the Glazers would sell up their stake when they are still making money hand over fist

Yeah but the owners won't be there and I doubt they'll even watch it. They genuinely don't give a fuck as long as the money keeps coming in.

Glazers will be fine as long as they stay away from ground. Turning up on match day currently would be a match to a powder keg

Other than potentially choice of management, they seem to throw money at the managers, so don’t quite get it myself eorher
