I am very confused why Ramos played Gilberto last night at LB when the fella hasnt played a competitive match in over 3 months !! Why put a new signing into a game that is now the focus for our season ?? He looked completely off the pace of the game as you would expect for someone who has been out for 3 months !
Why drop Lee in the first place....he didnt do anything wrong and infact looked like one of our better defenders this season....he must be pissed and thinking the same as Tainio who got kicked out of his partnership with Jenas as to why they are being dropped for no apparant reason....
I am baffled anyone care to enlighten me

I liked it when Lee was warming up by the touchline and everytime he jogged towards the PSV fans they all chanted "Lee! Lee! Lee! Lee! Lee! Lee!"

I think we should do that. :)

IMHO he played Gilberto LB as he had nobody else available to play there that he rates highly enough, hence why Chimbo always plays LB when Hutton is available.

Despite what some say and again IMHO if he had remained fit Bale would be playing LB game in game out.

We could have the best left back in the world but as long as we dont have a proper left mid it just aint gonna happen

I can totally understand why he played Gilberto. He had to play him sometime, and the fella has no Premier League experience but does have European experience. Made sense to introduce him in a game where the pace would be slower than a Premiership game. In hindsight, he was a bit crap, but Ramos wasn't to know he thought he was playing for PSV.

I did think this myself. What with Ledley not being 100% either, to have 2 of the back 4 not 100% fit (or having not played on a reg basis recently) seems odd.

I really am not a great fan of YP Lee but i do think he should have played last night.

He was played because he has European experience, has a left foot he can use and to start him in EPL would be too fast a pace to get into so quickly. I still expect him to feature against Spam and think he will do well for us.

lots of people, including me, were looking forward to him playing - of course we have to trust JR - which I do - but seems he called this wrong, however I'm not blaming him - he gambled- we lost - but his gambles have transformed our decade for the better - so I'm not complaining about him

the big shame is Hutton's ineligibility - otherwise I suspect we'd have seen Chimbo LB yesteday

My take is as follows. Ramos likes his FBs to be attacking weapons. Certainly Sevilla played with very offensive FBs such as Dani Alves and sometimes Adriano and the sadly deceased Puerta. The signings of Hutton & Gilberto, and the fact that Juande played Bale at LB, also suggest that he likes his FBs to attack.

Lee is very sound defensively, and is an excellent and committed team player. But we all know when he gets forward, he cuts inside back onto his right foot. When you combine this with Steed, who also often cuts inside (though not as regularly as YP), then our attacking options down our left flank are severely curtailed.

I've explained here that I think Ramos' entire gameplan last night was built around Gilberto:

That said, personally I would always pick Lee ahead of Tainio at LB, and probably ahead of Chimbo as well.

I would like to see Lee at LB. I think he has been consistant this season, and I would like to see him get the chance to play along side King, Woody and Hutton
