He was in the side. He played against Southampton and was very ordinary.

And lennon has been ordinary for multiple games. Giving a person one game and then pulling them is just bad management. Every player has had an ordinary game, but they don't get pulled.

It wasn't an isolted incident though, Lamela hasn't been reliable. Contrary to what people may write on here, he has started 10 games this season. Lennon has only started 5 more games than him and those 5 have been while Lamela has been injured.

Because Lennon and Townsend have been keeping Lamela out of a starting spot all season. I can't see how Mata has been doing that sitting on the Chelsea bench.

If they have then there's the first issue, not sure how they are keeping him out of a position he doesn't know. He's a forward, not a winger.

a regular first teamer who generally has been playing well that has a bad game would be unlikely to be dropped, but somebody new coming in that plays bad is likely to be dropped for the next game, conversely if he has a good game he has a good chance at keeping his place, surely that's common sense

I am sorry, but I just don't see why we are letting talent sit. Put lennon in italy and he doesn't score 15 goals. There is talent there. play him

It is CS, but I don't agree with it.

Play him when? When he's injured?

As I've said time and time again, Townsend deserved his run, because pre-Lamela he came in and was outstanding. Yes he tailed off, but he earned his run. Lamela had a few opportunities here and there to impress, particularly against some pub teams in the Europa and wasn't particularly good. Lennon has been in recently and has been good.

Again, play him when? How is he sitting? Are we letting him rot somehow? Like I said, he started 10 games. Up until the point he got injured, he hadn't started any less games than Lennon.

If Lamela is not happy then I'm not surprised. This is not based on anything other than a hunch but I just don't believe he really wants to be here or ever wanted to be here at all.

He is a 21yrd old South American who I think has an Italian passport, who seemed very happy playing in Serie A for Roma, with no intention of leaving. It's only because we threw silly money at Roma due to Bale leaving that they basically couldn't turn it down.

Again, it's just a feeling but I don't believe he had much of a say. The club said thankyou very much and suddenly he's on his way here, having to immerse himself in a new culture, all the while possibly being at the centre of a power struggle between Levy, Baldini and Avb. He probably spent most days thinking "What the fuck am I doing here?!".

So I feel a little bit sorry for him. Only a little bit mind you and it still doesn't mean he should be shoe horned into the team.

They cant force him to move. We offered him a contact and he agreed to sign.

This is Spurs. Proven top quality players must first be broken before being allowed a proper go at things.

Welcome to Spurs Jan, we're pleased to have you as our new left back!

Fuck we've signed arguably the best sweeper keeper in the entire world! Let's sit him on the bench for a few months to mess with his head and let our defence learn the high line game integrated with a 42 year old stay on his line keeper, that's a good idea.

Wow you tore the prem up playing through the middle in a pass and move Swansea side, we'll give you 5 games behind MrI'veneverpassedtoateammateinmylife Defoe and when he doesn't link up well with you we'll ship you out to the left to rot for the rest of your career. That cool Siggs?

Play an entire season of Champions League football and make your name against teams like Arsenal. Come sit on the bench and watch us demonstrate how not to pass the ball for an entire year Mr Holtby.

Soldado how many goals did you score last season, fuck me you don't need any help up front do you. Your lonely up there? Don't fucking worry mate, that's why it's called 'lone striker' role.

Adebayor I know you've just lost your brother but fuck off and train with the reserves because we're not struggling for goals at the moment.

Score 15 goals at the age of 20 in the Italian top league, get rated as the best prospect coming out of Messi's home spot, let's play Lennon who's never scored more that 5 goals in a season across the last 8 seasons. You can have the odd start away to Man City, but we'll play you out of position and blame you for anything that goes wrong even if you are no worse than anyone else on the pitch

Lamela is a potential talent. Lets wait and see how much he produces after a run of games in the PL before we start comparing him to Ronaldo.

Edited in Ronaldo for Messi..... you get my point though
And how many games is that...? It took Ronaldo well over a year to start establishing himself as the player he is today, when he first started playing at Manu.

Then every little slip up, many loyal so called supports just shit on him and call him a failure as he is not Ronaldo after 33 seconds on the pitch.

We have barely given Lamela couple of games and so many people are calling him a waste and failure already. Seriously, WTF is that all about, as that is not being a supporter or a fan of football, that is being an impatient gobshite (not saying you are at all, been talking in general here).

It is criminal that we have not been playing him and being patient with him.

And yes he is in competition with Lennon, especially in a 4-3-3 formation for that right sided attacking front 3.

But he is not injured according to ITK in the match day thread, and "if" he was fit, but not match fit, then put him on the bench and bring him on later to get up to speed.

Don't leave the poor fella out all together.

You seem to take a lot of ITK as gospel...

Are you not the poster who systematically undermines TS for no discernible reason other than you inexplicably dislike him?

If not, my apologies.

If you are lol at the irony in this post.

has he written him off? not sure i have seen him say he is shit and will never make it.

"He played against Southampton and was very ordinary" - My point being is that it was one game and one bloody game - how many games did Ronaldo look ordinary when he first came here? Sir Alex didn't bench him or do what we are doing, he put his faith in him, just like we should put our faith in Lamela and see what happens. Then if after 2-3 season he is still looking ordinary then fair enough.

Ordinary or not, the guy needs games and needs to be treated with respect.

We are treating Lamela horribly and what kind of a message does that put out to all other up and coming talents in this world... Come to spurs and unless you Ronaldo after one game you are deemed a failure by the supporters.

It is a complete and utter joke, there is no possible defence for the way Lamela has been treated, by all parties almost.

I think we are taking it slow with him, as you said it took Ronaldo over a year to settle. I don't think Lamela is "injured" but I don't think he is 100%, I have a feeling he has had a niggling injury and we are just taking it slow, giving him time to settle as well.

I wouldn't put him on the bench over a fully fit player IMO, but this is if my theory is correct.

I hope we start to see more of him soon, Europa league may be where he gets a chance to push for more game time in the league.
