Absolutely stunned that people wouldn't swap Lamela for Mata. Its not like Mata is an old man on the decline. Last season he was only behind Bale, RVP and Suarez as the best player in league imo.

So he was 4th.....

we all know 4th isnt good enough when chelsea are involved

I would hate to see Lamela leave but given that we need to keep the pressure up on the top 4 and Mata would almost certainly have an immediate impact, I can sympathise with that point of view. It's only a hypothetical suggestion anyway.

Too many people bought into Lamela in the transfer window. Have a look at the best team thread in August. Many people had him in the best team without seeing him play.

Mata is a good player, he is only 25 I think, would be a great player to have, but would it be difficult to accommodate Eriksen and Mata? I think it would be difficult to keep them both happy, and Eriksen is only 21 he could be massive for us.

Never.

Integrate lamela properly over a season and the following season you have a phenomenon on your hands.

The way he's been handled here from the start is a fucking sin.

Players of such quality and potential will look at this club as a death-trap for their careers.

To go from what he was doing at Roma to coming here and being treated like a flop before he's even got going is a fucking disgrace and the football gods WILL have their wraith! Grrrrrrrrrrr.
I fully agree.

Give him a big run of games.... Like 1 to 2 seasons worth.

I don't like knocking Lennon, I like him, but how many years has been here? Has he progressed much over the past few years? And he still can't find a good enough final ball on a regular basis.

I have a good feeling that if Lamela was given as many years as Lennon, I am guessing he would be twice, three times the player Lennon could ever be.

Should we swap him for Mata? Hell no, lets have both as the last thing we want is to have Chelsea with a promising young worldy on their hands, and they will develop him as they are not as stupid as us and will give him the chance to develop into the player we know he can be.

I don't think anyone is really saying they wouldn't want Mata to play for us. But if hypothetically we did a swap, and then heaven forbid Chelsea actually played Lamela and he realised his potential, then we would be a tiny bit irritated. Swap Lennon or Siggy (or both) for Mata if an imaginary swap has to happen.

I think we should swap him for Naughton.

Look, there is no point treating Lamela like a rare, delicate orchid, he's a fucking footballer like anyone else in our team.

I want him to play but we should be playing players based on merit, end of.

I don't think he's been as bad as some in the media make out but he hasn't been great either. Apart from the Swansea game Azza has been good, not amazing, but better than lamela.

If he really is unhappy at not getting game time and wants to leave then someone needs to have a firm word IMO

Yes like they did with De Bruyne and Lukaku?

AND WHY ARE YOU STILL COMPARING HIM TO LENNON?????

are you sure youre not Brian Lamela?

the love you have for this guy is bordering on the un-natural.

I personally don't think players will look at us like that nor do i understand where you get all the information you have about the way he has been treated.

You have literally no clue the way he has been treated behind the scene nor the way he has behaved, conducted himself or even trained.

Never in a million years.
Mata is a fantastic player, but Lamela is a talent like no other.
All those saying lets get rid are the ones who would have flogged Bale, Ronaldo, Modric etc, etc.
Lamela has the talent to be up there with the above mentioned players.
Hopefully Tim will give Lamela a run of games and then we can come back here and laugh at some these posts.

Lamela is a potential talent. Lets wait and see how much he produces after a run of games in the PL before we start comparing him to Ronaldo.

Edited in Ronaldo for Messi..... you get my point though

Why the fuck is Mata coming up. They're different types of players, Chelsea won't sell to the prem and definitely don't need another wide forward in Lamela.

Silly SC, go sit in the dunce corner and think about what you've done

This.

How have we treated him badly? Was it because we didn't roll out the red carpet?

He's at one of the top clubs in the world IMO and in the best league, if he thinks he could just stroll into the first 11 he's mental but we don't know if he does think that. All he needs to do is keep his head down, work hard and his chance will come

Dunno about that. They are both No.10/Attacking mid/creative's.

You're right about it being a pointless question though.

I think Lennon is currently playing well. It's not like he's playing absolutely atrociously and we need to get Lamela fit and shoe-horned into the side ASAP.

Lennon personally is a stop gap. But I understand that. But before the injury, he should have been in the side. He is talented, a goal threat, and has shown that he will get back and help defensively.

He was in the side. He played against Southampton and was very ordinary.
