What I couldn't understand about your argument with TGL was the he was insistent that AT nor AL should play on the right...ever. AL because he is 'shit' and AT because he's an 'inverted winger'.

I struggle to see what EL would have been apart from an inverted winger...
I have never said AL is shit, I have said he is not good enough and would make a great impact player for us.

He has been far too inconsistent over the years, for my liking and many others.

Enough of this left / right arguing crap, just play everyone through the center.

FULL FRONTAL ASSAULT.

It's relevant as the argument has been whether Lamela should have been starting on the right for us or not and part of that discussion is whether Townsend deserved to be getting repeated starts in that position over him :p

Has Lemela ever played as a deeper winger like we are playing?

Thought he was better further up the pitch around the box as a winged striker rather than a winger

A little north-west of Upton Park and Erik Lamela, Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing at £30 million, continues to struggle. My friend at Tottenham says that Lamela appears to be trying and that he is seriously talented but there is little disguising the fact that he appears to be pining for home. Or, at least, Italy.

It prompted one newspaper to suggest that he’d move to Lazio, his former club Roma’s arch-enemy. Journalists who are fans of Arsenal must love writing this stuff.

It’s hard to question Tottenham’s scouting policy. After all, this is a player who as a teenager was rated as highly as Lionel Messi by his former club, River Plate. While that early optimism may have been a little over the top, it is certainly easy to see why the club were so excited if you take a look at the pick of Lamela’s exploits on YouTube.

The chances of Spurs selling him any time soon? Next to zero. The chances of the Argentinian coming good? Fifty-fifty I’d say. Much will depend on Lamela’s mental strength rather than anything Spurs can do above and beyond what they’re already doing. The real question is whether Lamela is the kind of player that comes out fighting or simply throws in the towel?

“I’m not touching that one, I’m afraid, mate,” my friend said. Well, it was worth a try …

Pretty much ties in with most of our thoughts really. Talented kid, unsettled rabbit in headlights, not getting rid any time soon, has time on his side, no need to rush him into the side.

He might not give himself time to settle. Its understandable. The more time he spends with us and (failing) to get on the first team the less career success he will get. Its a World Cup year too.

No. He has always played as a number 10 or right wing forward.

I think it's only in the world leading football nation that is England that we have a fascination with touch line hugging wingers who play symmetrically in a 442.

Did he not play on the right for Roma?

Yeah he wouldn't play as a winger for us, well he shouldn't. Either a similar role to Silva and Nasri at City or at 10 or wideforward if we go one up top

Wouldn't we laugh if that was any other clubs record signing!

I've already said what he's done on the right, you bloody quoted it! And you can't be 'sure' of that at all. It's your guesswork.

I am in agreement with most that after initially starting well, his form wasn't great. Too many shots etc. BUT lets not forget that Soldado was isolated to everyone. Townsend has the ability to put a ball in with either foot. With two strikers, he may well be better on the right, though no guarantees.

This thread was about Lamela and TGL's point regarding why he didn't start immediately. Townsend had earned his run and was in good form by the time Lamela was on the scene.
And Townsend was part of the problem to Soldado's isolation. Many times you could see Soldado getting frustraited with him.

Was amazed he didnt even make the bench today, would have been a good game for him and nether Chadli nor Lennon where up to much today. I do wonder if Tim will ever give him a real chance. Not really sure how one can have thigh fatigue for over two weeks.

Unless he's still 'injured', which I find hard to believe, why didn't he make the bench today? Bizarre.
You have to wonder how he performs in training. He has a great reputation, he cost a lot of money and he doesn't get near the team.

The whole rush him into the side, doesn't speak the language argument people give new players is BS. Let the kid play and he will settle. It's like the idiotic work experience part of applying to jobs. Let kid get the experience and we will see what we have.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Honestly not sure why performing training has to do with getting game time unless he is very very unprofessional and always flouting the rules that i am sure would have come out, he doesn't seem that sort of player but who knows.

I have to believe he is injured because if it is political the Sherwood is cutting his nose off to spite his face, today would have been a good game for him, but who knows what is going on
