Personally, if we buy Romero and Tomiyasu I don't know if we would seriously pursue Kounde.
We already have Tanganga and Rodon and Nuno/Paratici may prioritise other areas and only push the button on Kounde or others of a great deal can be made
2 CBs (if we can offload a few, ie. Sanchez & Toby) + a RB has always been what Ally Gold said the club want to do.

In my opinion theres genuinely no comparison between Kounde & Tanganga/Rodon. If we want to get back to competing like we used to we need 2 new starting CBs.

Kounde's options are running out and Sevilla want Sanchez. Coco can have a mate to help settle. Win/win.

Yep. Do we really want to handicap Romero by playing Dier or Rodon next to him? They just aren't in the same class.

If we signed Romero and one other top CB, I couldn't care less if we signed nobody else this window. It would transform our prospects. I just feel even Romero on his own isn't enough to fix us, because we will still have a massive weakness on the other side.

The aim already stated by ITK is that we are looking for 2 CBs and a RB.

Sanchez and Toby look like going whatever happens with Kounde.

He can wait out and see which bigger team will come for him, but with Paratici in helm, I'm so glad we have someone, according to ITK, giving deadlines and not gonna wait for these players to choose. Past seasons would definitely see such deals collapsing at the final few days or even hours as players rejected us over other clubs.

I don’t think this will happen if it’s true that Kounde is waiting out for a move to one of the elite. We’ve heard how much Paratici doesn’t like waiting around, sets his deadlines and moves onto the next one. I would have thought there would be more competition for his signature but doesn’t seem to be much atm

These defenders are huge upgrades and will hopefully move us back towards peak Toby/Jan standards
But
We desperately need a ball playing CM that can pass and play through the lines.
Our midfield has been desperately pedestrian and predictable for a long time and I think this has been part of the problem for our defenders. Playing without the ball has massively increased the pressure and then highlighted individual and collective weaknesses.
Im sure we all hope Skipp can make this role his but a true CM is a must for me.

Hojberg, Skipp, Lo Celso and N'dombele are all ball playing CM's, especially the last two. Winks and Sissoko are the only side to side passing midfielders in the squad.

Is the answer not a Reguillon style situation?

Buy him now, and agree a semi-reasonable release clause - e.g. £90m

If he's doing brilliantly, and an elite team wants him, they can get him for top dollar

It's not ideal, but it would allow us to get him and benefit

I was wondering the same thing actually

I think we have to, to be honest. If Tomiyasu is to be signed primarily for that RB position, we need someone else to play with Romero. Neither Tanganga or Rodon are that person yet IMO and Dier certainly isn't.

Looks like this will get done, and at £35m Real would still presumably need more funds to be able to go for Kounde.

(on another note, £35m is an absolute steal for United. What a deal that is.)

I don't get why they'd even need Kounde, or why he would go there to sit on the bench. They're not going to play 3 ATB, so it would be a completely wasted move.

At least he'd be guaranteed starts here and at Sevilla.

Edit: thought it meant United, not Madrid. As you were...

There have been a few sources saying Madrid don't want Kounde.

That is a superb deal for United. Player at his peak for 35 million, insane business. I know his wages will be astronomical though.

Bizarrely I just don’t think they have the money. Maybe if they got rid of players like hazard they might but do they really need Kounde anyway.
That and they have three main CBs plus I think I read earlier they want to bring through youth to fill it out? Not entirely sure, but either way Kounde wouldn't be a starter I don't think.
